Myself, Circy and Wong Chung Bung had a bit of a chinwag regarding a set of rules for the site. These AREN'T official yet, I just wanted to see what you guys thought:

- No Defamatory language directed at others - swearing in general is permittable but not desired.
- No mindless insulting of others.
- No registration of false accounts or impersonating other users
- No racial, ethnic, or religious slur.
- All posts should be written in coherent English. "1337" language etc, or txt mssg tlk, is frowned upon and should be avoided.
- No repeat postings of games - previews must be updated rather than reposted. Hyping games in forums not allowed.
- Constructive criticism only, to be taken well or not at all.
- Admins will always attempt to be impartial and fair.
- Admins will always give reasons for topic locking or deletion, be it privately or publicly.
- Attempts to interfere with the appearance of the site - e.g. trying to use invalid HTML tags or posting very long strings (thus fouling up the page) are not allowed.
- Downloads and Previews must contain at least 1 INGAME screenshot... not menu pictures or concept art.
- A Minimum word limit on download descriptions and articles will apply.
- Articles must be well written, spell checked and neatly formatted.
- Articles must only state factual information - the boards are used to express opinion.
- Any admin decision is final.
- No restarting a topic when it has been locked or raising an issue when it has been deemed resolved by an admin.

Please, I must stress, if you want to reply to this topic, remember we are talking about RULES ONLY and not features or changes you want made to how the site works.

If a topic has gone bad you guys should make a list on what topics are not allowed.

Pete:
I still don't agree with the screenshot thing or the word limit on downloads. I mean, most games are hosted on sites that don't allow remote linking.

Nor do I agree with the any admin decision should be final thing. It's a massive excuse that's brought down many businesses.

And I hope you guys will be loose on the coherent English thing as well as the bit on 'proper articles'. Most of the world can barely speak English. Although the DC is an English site, I suggest you lay it easy on the non-English speakers.

The article law should be that the articles are legible and informative. I've seen some very poorly written yet very useful articles that were written by people struggling to speak English.

invaderzim:
Hmm... topics that have caused flame wars over the past:
1. Anything mentioning girls in it
2. Recruitment efforts (when someone gets turned down)
3. Debates (even the logical MMF vs TGF ones)
4. Which PC/console is the best
5. Who's the stupidest/most annoying/etc admin/member
6. Religion
7. Anything that even goes against someone's beliefs. I once witnessed a flame war because someone mentioned "VB (visual basic) sucks"

And I'm sure there's lots more out there. Point is, there's too much out there.

That's far too restrictive a set of rules.
But, hey, I don't run the regime around here, so I guess you can do what you like.

Oh, here's another one:
- Use somewhat descriptive titles. No "NEED HELP" titles in the forums or downloads with the title "Action/RPG" (unless that's the name of the game).

Finally, some rules. You guys better stick to them. If i'm going to actually download a game from here, I want a screenshot so I know that i'm not wasting my time.

Yes because you obviously have many other fruitful activities to resort to, Rhys.

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.

-"all posts should be written in coherent English....."

Ban slang talk with all that.

-"No restarting a topic when it has been locked or raising an issue when it has been deemed resolved by an admin."

Usually it's some kind of idiot's fault that posts are locked or deleted, not the one who starts the thread.

As Muz said:

I'd like to expand it a little. I know one click website which has forums on which all users in topics must use "[ ]" and write in it about what is this topic

Example topics:
[TGF problem]How to avoid falling from platforms
[MIDI]What midi would match to my logic game
[TDC]"Report broken link" needed
[Off-topic]How old are you all

This would make it much easier to get to the topics in which you are interested.

Pete, about all rules: I hope that there won't be any person allowed not to obey to the rules -> only one "bad" TDCman would ruin all discipline, you know.

Everything was okay about a month ago. I blame it all on christmas.

Anyway, everything was fine, except for rules being too lenient in some places such as previews and articles. Now the rules have gone rediculously strict, it should go back to the way it was and all the idiots should calm down, then everything would be fine again.

I don't know about that Aspara.
I wish I knew 1337 just for the sake of it, but you're right.

-Above post is ancient and probably irrelevant-

An old account of mine, recently cleared out. It's a blast to the past, the age was marked as 14 when I found it. If you know where to look, you can track me. Au revoir.
