I don't know much about hardware, so I'll just recommend the Radeon 9800. Not that much more expensive, so I'm getting it pretty soon.
I don't think there's much of a difference between brands. The main difference would only be in reliability, price, and maybe some of the features. So, I'd recommend you go for the 256 MB.
Ah... I still remember the good old days when the best 3D card I could afford had a whopping 32 MB (or was it 64?). 'Twas exactly a year and two months ago.

my response would be. Waint until computer cpu gets more general with the new 64bit. Then upgrade to 64bit and buy a 64 gfx card. then urll get the best co-op work between them

Do the drivers really matter? What makes a Radeon or G-force better than um... anything else on the market?

Like I said, the Radeon cards run games which use shaders faster than Nvidia cards, this has been proven in benchmarks. Most modern games will be using shaders so get a Radeon.
99 percent chance that the above post is 100 percent correct.
The new GeForces are also not DX9 compatable.
Use the CineFX? I think that's Nvidia's newest line. Be warned though, they are EXTREMELY loud. I had to upgrade to play the Doom 3 test.

Yes they are DirectX 9.x complatible. But I don't know the CineFX...
I would have to protest on the subject of the Nvidia chipset.
My younger bro bought a brand new radeon 32mbs and it sucks at running games compared to my older bro's Nvidia 32mb
card...
I swear by the Nvidias!!! lol....
I bought a brand new ASUS V9520/TD GeForce FX 5200 128mb 8x AGP gfxs card and I love it!
I think I payed about $139.00 Canadian Not sure if thats a good deal or not :S
And since Im on the subject of my computer... I will tell you what I upgraded and payed
I was running an AMD 300Mhz system with a Nvidia 32 mb card AGP...Slow...SLow ...SLow
BTW did I tell you it was slow?
Anywayz, I upgraded to a AMD XP 2600+ processer for about $150 Canadian.
I got a MSI K7N2 Delta with a Nvidia nForce 2 Chipset Based 5.1 Audio Channel
AGP 8x support 128bit memory bus for $130 Canadian which later on I found
that It should have cost me $210 Canadian
And finally I got a 512mb PC3200 DDR RAM for $85 Canadian
Does it look like a good deal?
Thanks
Kenley
Oh and ya... Nvidias are awesome! Get one with that type of chipset don't you think ShdowCaster?
"I have dreamed a dream... But now that dream is gone from me."
Could be drivers, maybe it's over heating, look at the card and if there are strange bumps on top of the parts it's probably blown something.
I heard that the MB in a graphics card doesn't matter and incredible amount-128mb is better than 32mb of course, but anything above that doesn't matter unless you are running full screen DVD on a 6000x5000 screen.
Well Lev thats wrong. simply wrong. Sorry bout that
But increased Megs are used for decreasing ingame loading times
like if ur card doesnt use compression the textures fills up huges amounts of space.
But a 256mb can preload alot much and more alot more that a 128
if ur card uses compression! It preloads even more and alot even more than before
