speaks for itself. personally, i like some of them, but i cant stand ones that throw tonnes of numbers and stats at me, and sometimes i just feel like a good ol' hack and slash game. any comments?

* and yes i am aware of the general poll

not a huge fan - i hate ones with the same story line ( i.e boy has to save world/girl from evil ) - also i find the attack system very slow and tedious with 2 evenly matched players. I liked elder scrolls series tho as the world was so ingrocing and u could intereact with everything - also they have original story lines unline breath of fire and all that banter

I have to say I don't normally get into RPG's very well but Dark Cloud 2 is just incredible.

Yes, RPG's do rule and are my favourite genre of game and book. How can you not like FFVII and FFVIII? The others are a bit too 'futuristic' for my liking, but still rule, especially the GRAPHICS IN FFX!
Oh and not forgetting the SNES RPG's which is where I developed my love for the whole concept of the RPG: Secret Of Mana, Zelda, Mystic Quest, Illusion Of Gaia plus many, MANY more.
Amen.

i hate most RPGs. well, i say most, i mean any that are similar to final fantasy. i watched my brother whittle away hours of his life "levelling up" on final fantasy x, and it was the most depressing thing i'd ever seen. i had a go but i didn't make it past some boss because i just couldn't be arsed to spend ages and ages doing the same dumb thing again and again.

i much prefer FPSs. shoot them, they die, you win. easy and fun; with no HPs and MPs and stats to remember.

But stats are fun...unless there are too many. My RPG has 4 stats in it. Nice and simple, and it's easy to remember how they work too.

I don't like "complex" RPG's, but I do enjoy ones with good storylines. Oh and Pete, in my RPG levelling will be very easy until later on. There will also be many options on how you get your exp(quests, monsters, trade skills, etc.)

Edit: Combat will be designed so that it goes faster. Select a battle option, when your bar fills up you automatically attack.(So you don't have to waste time picking every time.)

I prefer simple RPGs - ones with loads of stats are too much for me, it just gets annoying trying to figure out what combination I need to defeat Galgazaar the Green Gnome of Grulpth.

im guessing most RPG really do need the stats we all seem to hate, but it doesnt mean we have to see them, keep them HIDDEN!
also like i sed im not the greatest fan, and im sick of ppl who think that makes me a dumbass cus i enjoy blowing things up!

I'm surprised nobody mentionned the Fallout series. It's an excellent futuristic RPG which relies more on the pen-and-paper route. It has turn-based combat just like the FF games, but it works in a different way in this game. You get a certain number of action points each turn and must use them in order to move, attck, use items and such. You get to use guns in that game, and there's nothing more fun than dismembering a gang member with a SMG. Lovely sight indeed. >

Anachronox also is a great RPG, although it's not as well known as many RPGs. It's a FF-like game that might follow the untirable "a gang of people get together to save the world" plot but it's one of the few games which pull it off well. The characters are likeable and have a strong personality and the game has a great sense of humor. There's some parts of the game which almost made me piss myself.

I'm not much of an RPG fanatic, but there are a few that I absolutely love. Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X, Shadowrun, and Phantasy Star Online are a few of my favorites.

I don't have time for serious RPG's. Definately not like Final Fantasy and all of those Japanese-esque ones.

I prefer mine "First person RPGs" like Deus Ex and System Shock 2.

Come to think of it, I just love first person games!
