Zone Alarm is a great firewall but it will not protect your pc from viruses.

You can tell Zone Alarm to allow certain games through.

Zone Alarm is probably one of the worst firewalls ever created. The only thing it has going for it, is it has a free version that you can download. But the free version isnt perfect, it only blocks specific ports that people commonly hack through, it doesnt block other ports that people could still use. There are also other issues.

Personally, I just use the Windows firewall (comes for free with Windows XP)

Most firewalls can't stop programs from sending data from your computer to some location on the internet (like spyware or a Trojan). They only stop people from hacking into your computer. Zone Alarm will stop outbound data.

Any firewall worth it's salt should be able to block outgoing data. Try Sygate Personal Firewall

Hmm.. firewalls seem to do more harm than good for me. I just get a second computer with no access to the internet and do all my secretive work on that computer (with the proper security tools focused on that one, of course). Anything going in or out comes through a 256 MB USB drive that gets formatted regularly.

That way, potentially dangerous stuff (like trojans) get run off on this computer and hackers are only able to do vandalise/steal stuff on this computer. Which means nothing really important gets damaged and you don't have to go through those annoying things firewalls and anti-viruses force you to do.

Only prob is getting the money to buy a second computer and a USB drive . I just grab a cheap computer a local university was gonna scrap. Good ol 733 MHz Pentium III for absolutely free, more than enough for a simple 'gate'.

As for passwords, who cares if people hack your account? Just use the tips SC mentioned on the front page and you'll be fine.

Zone Alarm IS good. It received a 9 out of 10 from Maximum PC and was the first firewall that could stop outbound connections (many firewalls like Black Ice STILL can't stop outbound).
