got a small idea for this christmas,

Example:
eliris,s-m-r,neuro,and OMC wants to join,
eliris says "I'm in, I like megaman"
s-m-r says "I'm in,I like aliens"
nauro says "I'm in,I like cars"
OMC says "I'm in, I like space shooting"
let's say Jon Lambert owns the competition,
Jon Lambert chooses neuro to be eliris's partner and PM eliris neuro's name, PMs neuro eliris's name,
Jon chooses s-m-r to be OMC's partner, he sends PM's to the two saying they are partner

Now eliris checks neuro's post saying "I like cars" and makes a racing xmas game, and neuro does the same with el's interests, and so on for the others

Now they choose a thumbnail or gift box image to be the thumbnail/link preview to they're game,
after, they PM Jon Lambert their finished game

now on the release date, Jon will make a thread with the thumbnails linking to the gifts
example:
from eliris, for neuro: (gift box image linking to download page, racing game)
from neuro, for eliris: (gift box image linking to download page, megaman styled xmas game)
and I hope you understood something of what I said

how it works:
people will post in the compo thread about the things they like and that they would like to join, then an admin or competition owner will pick 1 random person for each participant and PM them their partner's name, then, they will look at the thread and see what does their partner like, and make a game about it, and then, on the deadline, they will PM the admin/compo owner, and on the release day, there will be a thread about the gifts (the games) with the gift recipient's names

Hahaha! That seems pretty funny. Kind of like a cross between a game competition and Secret Santa.

I'm game for this; it sounds fun. I'm still cleaning up after the Halloween competition, however, so I won't be the competition host.

I wonder who will be good to be the the competition host, but if it'll exist, it'll be good! I'm waiting

I'm not sure that there'll be a competition this time, we have only a very short amount of time to prepare something, and to organise prizes to motivate people. I did have an idea in mind though, and something original too.

As much as a dislike admitting it, I think we can gather a lot more interest if we can find someone to sponsor a cash prize like last year. Though I really would like to see if our talented community members can be swayed into action without the lure of money.

I think this idea could work actually, despite the time gap. Instead of making it end around christmas, we could instead announce who gets what on Christmas then make the deadline like February 15th or something

The main goal of it is that the participants makes the games as gift for their partner, instead of getting a price, so everyone gets a present and no one has to pay some money or things for a winner

I think that sounds cool. But in that case it would probably be best to support small games. Maybe talk the admins in to doing some sort of punishment if you don't give a gift to someone, like change their rating or lose points.

Well the punishement system is kinda mean, what if we say the person cannot participate on next year's "gift contest"?

All I want this year is no forced christmas THEME. Actually don't force a theme at all. Force a genre, limitation or time limit, sure. But don't make us have Santa as the main character or snow everywhere

I see these competitions as a good incentive to make something. But i'm often put off when I get some idea brewing in the mind then a theme gets shoved in our faces meaning people wont want to play our games past December the 31st.

Well @Andyuk, it will not be forced to have a christmas theme, nor the little red guy, people will post their interest and the other partner will try to make a game about it as a xmas gift for his partner, and so on

Sounds like a decent idea. However will the partners be chosen at random? Because the genre of the game can be quite important.
For instance, I wouldn't want to be paired with someone that wants a MMORPG for christmas.

Plus i can imagine that people would be paired only to find the other person hasnt bothered or has died

ummm, it was originally meant to be random or I don't know, something that will be a gift/surprize other than an usual xmas themed game competition
