Yeah, I notice from your facebook that it's tough up there. It genuinely is fine down in Bristol, for example - jobs everywhere you look.

I don't have a job, and haven't had one for several years now, except ocasionally getting paid for art stuff. Though i am applying for a job today, in like two hours. Wish me luck!

@ Don Luciano:
Good luck with the job interview!
Not working gets old really fast...

@ Matt Boothman:
You should emigrate. Seriously.
I would if I had an actual skill that could get me a visa (eg. baker).

I've taken a year off between college and getting a career to work on my projects, but I'd like to poke my head around some game developers and put that shiny SE degree to good use. But I decided theres one other way to build a resume.

Anyway I'm sure I'll start asking around communities for a nudge in the right direction when the time comes

I'm an Accountant.

Surprisingly it's a fairly good step for someone who's into ICT. The work can involve processing large volumes of numbers, finding relationships between them, and getting to the bottom of some fairly complex formulae when it comes to tax. Knowing how to program is a huge advantage, mostly in the case of programming spreadsheets and VBA Macros.

It's also a great life skill to have, and makes you a useful man for your friends to know.

PhD student, about 6 months away from starting to write my thesis .

Sorry to hear about you losing your job Matt. The West Mids is having a bad time too, in fact we have the highest increase of deprivation, 40% according to some governmental report - I will try to find the PDF if your interested. The reason I went back to academia was because all the industries I could have worked in was collapsing, I was an electronic instrumentation designer at a now defunct company.

So yes, I guess I am being paid to do what I love, although no one I work with ever talks about pay, its about experience and dedication to the game. If you're only bothered about money you may aswell work in some supermarket job somewhere.

Did you start working there in time to get your name in the credits of the newest Kinect Sports package Rare made? Stadium Events is it?

Very nice, I shall look for your name when I am at my Sister-in-laws house. (Still too cheap to have a 360, nevermind Kinect). I wasn't sure what the lead out time was for you guys. But I forget that I'm old, and that Discs can be pressed like 2 weeks before a game comes out. Before I start on a "back in my day" rant that hagar would no doubt enjoy, I'll stop myself.

Congrats Adam!

You missed the best part. You see, the kids listen to the rap music, which gives them the brain damage, with the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin' so they dont know what the jazz is all about! You see? Jazz is like Jello Pudding No! Actually it's more like kodak film. No! Actually Jazz is like the new Coke It will be around forever.

And that my friends is why games was better back in my day.

This is totally an american joke Adam. Well that and an old man joke.

Isn't you not having an Xbox kinda like sacrilege? Rare is still owned by Microsoft, right? I haven't been keeping up.
