Hey! I once had this idea! Why not let users to create more than 1 avatar! Why won't we let them have 3 or even 5 different which will represent their emotions?
I mean, standard, angry, sad, happy, excited... Et'c? Why not do that? =D
You could just use a PHP script as your avatar link. Not everyone would use it for multiple emotions, and then people would want 4 images, and then 5 images, and it would snowball out of control.
