Hai Gais
We all feel like not doing anything at all some times. I'm like that right now, and I really want to finish this game I'm working on! So my question to you all lovely people out there is, how do you get motivated? Do you listen to a special track, watch some art or stroll around in the forest? Please share!
Thanks

A lot of times, motivation hits me square in the head out of nowhere, for no reason! I wish I could figure out what causes it. Like today, I spent most of the afternoon working on projects.

Music is an easy answer. Usually something instrumental so that I don't get distracted by the lyrics, but the occasional rock song is nice. One of the biggest motivations for me is recalling just how much homework I will be putting off by working on a project instead.

It's also always a big help to show people your projects, whether online or in person, so you can get some feedback and maybe just a few smiles!

Oh, and food. Good, tasty food/beverages.

Personally, I just think about how much work I can get done during the day if I work on the project, and then I get all excited. Then I work while listening to good classic rock music and instant messaging friends/ mmf2 buddies on Skype. Usually I only get done a fraction of what I wanted, but then I just look back at what I accomplished and feel somewhat happy.

Then it happens all over again.

My methods would be...

Back on Topic...

1.) Keep things interesting: The minute you feel like doing something, do it, unless of course you must put it off until later. Also decrease testing frequency: It's important, sure, but too much of it will wear you down. The longer you code, the more gratuitous the result. (Well... usually.)

2.) Music: Usually light. Nothing that would distract you. Something nice, simple, rhythmic, melodic, etc. Unless you don't like that kind of music. :| Nevertheless, it does seem to motivate one quite abit.

3.) Set a goal: e.g: "Once I've completed level 3, I'm going to capture a video and- [Show it off to friends, TIGsource, TDC, Facebook, My grandma, etc...]. Basically it motivates you because you want the reward at the end. Ridiculously simple, but effective, depending on how bad you want the reward. It worked for me!

That's all I can think of right now. Hope this helps!

EDIT: I put somethings in the wrong of place.

I find it is sometimes impossible to get motivation. Those are recharge periods. You shouldn't look at them as dry periods, not let it bug you. The less you think about it the sooner it comes back.

The more time I spend away from coding, the more great ideas I get that I will prolly never make.

So yeah, taking a break is good for producing ideas.

Try to think about the section of the project you are working on, and code the whole thing in your head. You'd be surprised at how much you'll want to get to your computer so you can actually do it!

Unless you code so much and find out there's a ton of bugs and you don't know what really is causing them because you didn't take small steps to test in between to make sure it's still working

its a bit off, but i think kinda suits the topig:

guys, i think, there are parts of codding which are REALLY not fun.
when you got the idea and nothing exciting will happen, just you have to code something "without thinking". i mean, just as a robot. it's kinda happens after you managed to make some hard parts in your coding.
if you can work hard, and pass these parts of gamemaking there will come another exciting parts. if you keep this in mind, i think you may get motivated.

and of course, not just codings got boring parts, imho everything got the deadly boring parts in gamemaking. JUST HANG ON DUDES!!!!!!! :C

but i'm not feeling that motivated, but i think my creativeness is left at uni :C i think this can be a bit difficulty too >:C

(btw: coding? codeing? )
