OK, I just saw a top 10 SNES games on Gametrailers,

and number 1 was Contra 3 / Super Probotector to us UK peeps,

so whats the best SNES game that ever there was er.. or something,

I have to agree with the vid on GT, Probotector #1,

what other game do you ride missles into the ass of the bad guys space ship shooting the shields off it so that the missles can do ther job,

and what other game has the big boss come back after finishing it off on the difficult setting with a armour on to kick your ass off the escaping helicopter as the whole alien complex explodes behind you as you go...phew, it was a good game back in the day.

No sir I don't like Super Probotector. Bought it on the Virtual Console because of the gleaming reviews but I just didn't like it.

Mine would probably be quite boringly Mario World or Yoshi's Island. I used to read about them all the time in magazines but I rarely ever played Mario World and I didn't even get to play Yoshi's Island until the GBA port.
And truth be told I didn't even like Link to the Past that much and I still think Links Awakening is probably the best Zelda game to date.

Anyways, what needs to be said here is Super Mario RPG, or Earthbound, not-so-much Chrono Trigger although it's okay, and of course Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World, and what else did I play? Hmm.

I absolutely agree with Contra/Probotector being #1. It was one of the first games for the SNES but everything about it suggests that they worked on it for at least a couple of years. The level design, boss design, music. Not to mention that it was running on brand new hardware at the time.

Kai, check out Axelay. It's a crime that it's not available on the UK Virtual Console store.

Yeah I think for the snes it would probably be Super mairio RPG for me, I found that much more enjoyable than the platforming SNES mario games.
I did enjoy Zelda LTTP on the snes too though, so I'd put them both at number 1.

Same as Dr. James here, Mario World or Yoshi's island. Mario RPG is really good but it is really hard to play on a PAL SNES (you actually have to open the cardgidge and mess with the protection chip) so I never got the chance to play it right (like not on an emulator).

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you like it?

Just wanted to update here about the nice little workaround I discovered tonight.

Axelay has been available on the US and AU Shopping Channel for months, but there's been no sign of it appearing on the UK store. Sick of waiting, I just tried changing my console region manually in the Wii Settings, and.. it worked! It didn't complain that my credit card is from the UK, or that I'm using a European Wii, or that my actual geographical region is neither AU or UK.

The only problem is that changing your Wii region will delete your current Shopping Channel points (it warns you of this before changing.) If you're using a credit card you can add them after you change region. I have 500 points leftover and I have to spend them before I change back or I'll lose them. I don't know what to buy; I'm limited to NES and Sega Master System games and 90% of those are turds.

I'm surprised that something so simple actually worked. The amount of crap I had to go through to buy the indie games bundle from Steam recently was insane. It's nice when computers just do what they're told to do

Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart and a Link to the Past.

Also Mario All Stars, as anything with SMB3 = Pure Win, although i do prefer SMB3 on my NES tbh...

Definitely "Zelda: Link to the Past" is #1 for me, by a long way.
Then maybe "Mario World", "Illusion of Gaia", "Harvest Moon", "Donkey Kong Country" etc.
In it's day, I'd have put "Mario Kart" up there too, as probably the best multiplayer game, but it hasn't aged well.

And of course there's the awesome "Mole Mania" too, if you have the gameboy adaptor (doesn't really count, I know).

Chrono Trigger or Super Metroid, with Final Fantasy VI running a close third.
