I like the notion of removing everything numerical. Reviews, ratings, etc. People seem to get too flustered by these numbers, so removing them should fix it, right? Or, make them visible only to the authors.

I pretty much think Nim's idea on the latest news post was great. Give members the decision if they want people to rate their game when they upload it to the site

That's a very good idea. Both Youtube and Deviantart have options to stop comments and ratings, but you can 'favourite' anything.

I still say ratings discourage critique.

Critique can still be sent through PMs, emails or instant messaging stuff. But for some folk it can prevent people from spamming some games. Bad side to it is they can't have their game rated out of 5 (which, given the few people abusing this to form what they believe the top rated games should be, could be a good idea).

I figured the topic name was meant to be a question, he said "insert views here" so I assumed he was asking if we liked the idea or not and whether it should be implemented. . .

The trouble is that although it's nice to get good ratings, apparently you don't need to suggest any improvements unless you give a lower score than everyone else.
So in the case of a pretty nice game like... Say, A game with a Kitty. Everyone likes it and gives great scores but Bernie has gotten little to no useful feedback.

This creates a situation where all the rest of his games pretty similar to all the older ones. Any little flaws in the formula are more likely to remain because no one told him about them. They're all still good games of course. Personally I want to see something more and I'm sure pushing for improvements will help the overall quality of games from going stale.

Hey, so what are your opinions on which ratings should be removed? Because some people are voting 0 because the links don't work and some people are voting 5 because they like the guy who created it.

I'm thinking that a vote of "5 stars because its shiney" is deserved

I'll definitely remove a few of the old ratings where the guys said "I meant to vote 5 stars, but I voted 0 because they were the same color". And the obvious downvoting/upvoting votes.

Frankly, I think the only ratings that should be removed are ones from fake accounts done just to lower a game, like if I made 50 different accounts and downvoted everyone else and upvoted myself with them. As long as its 1 rating per "real person", let them rate it what they want. If rating something and changing your mind is the issue, than let people change their ratings

i think voting should be allowed to be anonymous, like just have the stars at the side, not part of writing a comment. That way people can vote what they really think without having to take into account what everyone else is going to think of them for their vote afterwards.

That would just make it even easier for people to vote 0 stars for the people they dislike.

you can already do that by making a rating post, and deleting it.
