If you're just trying to take screenshots, just use alt+prt scrn on your keyboard to take a picture of only the active window.

There's a free screen recording tool called Windows Media Encoder. I have no clue how efficient it is compared to others, but depending on the app you're running and your computer's speed you may need to set the priority to high in the task manager.
