I was wondering this, because I've been trying to update mine pretty regularly and was wondering if it was even worth it to anyone else here? I don't see too many comments on anyone's project page and I was wondering if it's a waste.

I mean, I know where I am in making my game, so I don't need it for myself. What do you guys think? Do you try to update your game's project page regularly or choose not to because you feel it won't even get looked at?

I take a look of most of them when they're posted. Unfortunately people really seem to be abusing it.

I think it'd be ace if each project could have an icon. 16x16 or something to make it stand out a little better, maybe have custom colour rows too. Right now I think it looks too plain is all.

Yes, thee are a lot of good looking projects in there, but a lot of not so good ones, too. That sometimes puts me off bothering to look in there, but like James is suggesting - If the projects stood out a bit more then mroe people may be interested in checking them out.All we really have to go on right now is the games title.

Edit: Just like to say that it can be very annoying when you click the title of a project with an interesting name, only to be presented with one sentence. Too many times have I checked out a project only to find no info or screendumps or anything like that about it.

"I was wondering this, because I've been trying to update mine pretty regularly and was wondering if it was even worth it to anyone else here? I don't see too many comments on anyone's project page and I was wondering if it's a waste. "

That's a valid point. The way I see it is that the Projects page probably has more visibility and interest than what the comments numbers seem to indicate. People just won't comment, because that's not part of the TDC "culture". You comment something that is released, something you can try to play: downloads, but not projects. That's something that the community has got used to over the years.

This can be facilitated by admins and mods: it's possible to put more focus on the projects. Besides small details like icons mentioned above, projects can be more effectively communicated by frontpage news and weekly click news, maybe even with their own dedicated "projects news" or something like that which would reflect the development statuses of multiple ongoing projects. It's a simple choice for the site administrator to make: how important game projects really are, compared to already finished game downloads.

And I think they are extremely important, because tomorrow's game material comes from today's projects. If they are finished, the community gets more games. If projects have visibility and interest, active followers, then they also have better chances to get finished and in higher quality. As you can see in this article http://www.create-games.com/article.asp?id=1782 the lack of commitment and focus is the biggest perceived drawback in game making for click game developers. Projects section has a strong potential impact to that. It's great that we have this Projects page up and running, but TDC could emphasize it even more, and build up more recognition for projects among the community members.

...it was supposed to become a short answer...

I made a topic like this a few weeks ago, the thing that annoys me is the fact my game gets pushed down to page 2 after about a week by games with pathetic descriptions.

Although it seems (as slinky says) this turns people away from the project section altogether, could that be the reason why almost no one has commented on my two videos in the recent update? well besides those members I FORCED to watch them lol.

Because barely any of them actually have a post in their forums, and who wants to be the first to make a topic just for a line to comment how they only have maybe 1 or 2 sentences stating that they're working on a project, meanwhile they are never thought out and more then less likely, forgotten in less then a week.

I think maybe there should be some limitations as to wether you can submit a project or not. Sorry for repeating myself a tad here but I just wanted to suggest this. Too many decent projects get pushed back pages and pages by other projects with only like one sentence. "omg! I've just had a great idea for a game! Let me post it in the Projects section of TDC!". It's nice to see the enthusiasm, don't get me wrong, but when it's just a few words it will not interest people at all.

Maybe if you were forced to submit a screenshot or something? Reading about projects is good, as long as it is very informative but if you don't upload a screenshot because "I've not worked on any graphics yet" then really there isn't even a project there yet. Well, at least not properly.

I see a lot of jokes and games that the uploader has absolutely no intention of finishing. It's sort of pointless because people can post anything there even if the game they are making isn't even real or never will be. Maybe it should be changed so there has to be proof that the game is somewhat done or has something in progress before uploading rather than having a bunch of random ideas with no substance flooding the front page.

Or maybe just replace them with devlogs (devblogs) that are user specific and appear on the front page only after being updated (rather than be on the front page as soon as they're submitted). That would filter out all the fake games or games that are going nowhere from the games that people are actually working on.

I'll look at the projects page when I feel like it. I tend to get the urge to look at the articles or projects or downloads like once every 2 weeks instead of the forums

As it seems many people find "poor" projects as a reason why not to check/follow the Projects page, maybe there should be a feature to rate the projects with 0-5 stars based on its interest/potential. Projects list could then be sorted by either rating or last update.
