dunno if its already been said but imagine using that for Lightsaber games. it pretty much emulates the lightsabers hilt but with a weightless beam/light/burny bit. which will just be awesome
Racing games; turn it on its side and just use as a mini F1 racing wheel.
FPS/FPA. nuff said.
Boxing; as real as its gonna get without some kind of matrix-y immersion.

some genres are going to have to change on the Rev or just use the GC shell controller. but the games on this are going to be outstanding, after the initial and almost obligatory gimmick games.

Jimmi, it wouldnt be able to tell where the controller was in 3D, it only feels wether you're swinging it left, right, up and down. Microsoft is the only one developing what you're talking about, and even then it needs to have two cameras from different angles.

as part of the Rev system, a bar is placed under, below or near your TV. you then calibrate it. that detects how far the controller is to the screen. the gyroscopes deal with which way its been rotated, or pointed.
hence the gunner in the Rev teaser vid. gyroscopes alone couldn't predict where it was pointing on screen.

unless I'm missing something then its 3D.

It is in 3d. It can detect up, down, left, right, forward, back, tilt left and tilt right (and maybe more tilting). The trailer shows someone playing baseball with the controller.

uhm... JP... up/down = one dimension right? then add left/right. that's two dimensions. And then it could detect how far away you are too... that is the depth... forward/backwards. three dimensions!

It cant tell how far in physical space you are. You could be standing on a ladder and playing baseball and the bat wont be an extra 6' high. you could be standing 10' to the left of your tv, but your lightsaber will be swinging in the same spot. So yes, you are missing something. Microsoft is the only one exploring true physical 3D interactivity.

Just because it doesn't sense the location in 3D space doesn't mean it can't interperet 3D movement through dead reckoning on the Z axis.

well... yes it would? the game starts off and your cursor (say its an RTS/God game) is slap bang close to the screen dead in the middle. pointing it up would move the cursor up. down, it would go down. move it closer and it would go further into the level/field. move it sideways and the cursor goes sideways. isn't that fully 3D? with the bar and other detection bits n bobs that tells the Rev that the controller is a certain distance from the TV, or that you're to the left or right of it.

same for the sword. Links position would be controller by the little analogue controller, but the gyroscope controller would be his hand. you could thrust the sword forward, swing it around in any direction and using what we've been told about the Rev's controller; would be completely translated onto the screen as if you were Link yourself.

sorry JD, i just can't see what you're on about. any examples of what you mean? and what about the Xbox360; they don't have gyroscopes or sensors do they? I thought they were just regular Xbox controllers but with a Live button?

This is what I'm talking about. Link's swoard position wont be exactly the same as yours, it will have the functionality of a lightgun pimped with gyros.

My only problem would be keeping my hand steady with nothing to support it, but I bet that's not a problem at all. I wasn't going to buy a Revoluion but now I definitely will.
