Hello again

I need to know Brian Cardarella's e-mail address. I know of ditr@tiac.net, but is that one correct, since he moved to mdc.net? I want to enter Sim-Fish and The Extacy FV in the contest. I have sent 2 e-mails for the 2 games to ditr@tiac.net, but I'm wondering if that's not the wrong one.

Sprite: How'd you get the scrolling credits/help/preview screen on Defender Sira??

Colin: What's this hting about non-CnC groups? I don't understand.

Btw, I still need people's opinions on the PSI Jukebox on my site. You know, where you get to choose the songs and listen to 'em? I need to know if I should that it out.

Btw again, To all 640x480 resolution people: In case you didn't know, I have deleted all the trees from my site, so it doesn't look like crap anymore. I will be fixing the top frame soon.

Brian Cardarella: Your online contest submission form doesn't work. Or at least it didn't when I tried it.

Look, when somebody wants to sell their CNC game, they do NOT rely on the KNP crowd. They put it up into the actual world.

A shareware game by an unknown can usually get 100+ registrations and that adds up.

An another, smarter note - Redneck Ogle Dirtbike will, yes, be a shareware game. Distribution wlll be focused on the NON-KNP crowd. Do you ever hear me mention "CNC" on the FunWare page? Well, that's because we're not an exclusive CNC group. We're a shareware group, and we're not idiots about it either.

Hello!

I just uploaded Crash, Ken Hughe's game. It's pretty fun. You need two players, and it has great graphics. Goto:

Okay! entrexb: Use your head. You call us names and then expect us to buy your game? This site gets 200 hits a day! Do you have any idead of the kind of CRAP we can fling? We're talking 200 people that all hate you? There goes the profits. If there was any to begin.

In a lighter tone: Crash is done. (I say it many times.) and possibly a sequel will be put up.

I GOT BACK ON #K&P!!!!!!!!! THOSE REAL COOL PEOPLE LET ME BACK ON! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! SORRY.

If anyone likes Crash, please tell me: ken_hughes@hotmail.com I'd love to get it on a Web Page.

If you want Crash: same adress.

Havoc Enterprises, home of ZERO doesn't have a homepage. D/L their games at www.dragonfire.net/~havoc/ ... try ZERO and Quantum Break, both excellent shareware games.
Also, Virtually Real's URL should go in this post -- but I don't remember what it is.

Sprite: Whoops! Sorry! :)

All: I have updated my page by clearing out all the tree columns. I got a look at my page under 640x480 resoluton at a friend's house, and it looked crappy. Each tree was crowed in the centr, making the page ugly. So i cleared 'em all out. I will also change my top frame, because it looks screwwed up too.

Also, should I delete the jukebox at the top of my page? Does anyone actually like it?? It kinda annoys me now, but should I delete it?

Thanks for your help.

Btw, if you happen to see a tree somewhere on my site, please e-mail me what page it is, and i'll delete it.

Thanks again!

Boogy Woog productions?! What a dumb name! And if you graphics are like the backgrounds/pics on your site, then you're in trouble. People don't buy crap. Don't hype something if it's not going to be cool.

Just my $0.02

Now, if YOU want to see what a teenager can do, making FREEWARE games, goto:

http://home.earthlink.net/~illiuvf/HTM/ <----Sprite's Page (I think that's the address)
http://www.is.nl/ap/ <----Amazing productions (Rikus is 18, I think)

That's all I can think of off hand. I can't access my bookmarks because I'm at a friends house. Sorry to everyone I didn't include. :P Btw entronx, goto Sprite's page and download Defender Sira demo. It's the best platform game by K&P/C&C/TGF ever!!

And, if you want to, you can goto my page: http://www.netline.com/psi/
I'm 14, so i qualitfy for this post :)

Please don't hype up games. It just pisses people off. (We all remember Chase =^) )

Bye!

Tommi... I've already fixed all those problems in GTS³. I also completely reanimated Gordon with much more care. He's only about 2/3 of his old size, he doesn't stick to obstacles, you have to press jump every time you want him to jump (as opposed to holding jump) and you don't have to hold jump to bounce off enemies. But this version is not released to the public. Also includes requested things such as you see where you land when you jump. Also you don't always have to start the level from the start, thanks to halfway markers. Now you know.

Kevin Smets <Smets97@aol.com>
San Diego, California US of A - Friday, August 29, 1997 at 19:38:14 (CDT)

Hello everyone! :)

First off, I want to start out by saying that it is self centered, egotistical immature idiots like "entrexb" that give most decent AOL Knpers a bad name. On behalf of the entire AOL Knp congreation, I apologize. :)

REALM News... things are looking good, and we are still striving for the September 1st deadline. Unfortunately, our main person in charge of the TGF Nebula section is Missing in Action, we have no idea where he wandered off to. So we have our good friend Justtin Millan (Justtin@aol.com) in charge as of this writing. The section won't be as big as the rest, but please excuse our "stardust" as we have been "over-REALMed" by the disapearance of our friend.
As for me, I am home for the weekend (I live an hour away from my college) because I need to pack up all the things I needed to bring in the first place, and pack up my old computer for my girlfriend to use (the cpu I am using now, actually). Also, LAUNDRY LAUNDRY LAUNDRY! :) Anyways, since I am home, I will have no problem in finishing up the majority of my Klik & Play Universe section, with the exception of the KNPU Spotlight, which was supposed to house an interview with our TGF Nebula leader, who is MIA! :) Anyways, thank goodness I am home, for it was looking like not all of KNPU was going to be done at the time of launch.
I'll let everyone know how things are going, as we prepare to announce the URL for our big launch for the Realm (which is not on AOL's server space, by the way).

Well, take care everyone! And it is good to see that "Crash" is done! I made a game once similar to "Crash" as a mini game in a huge "Disneyland" game I made a while back. Based on the Mad Tea Cups, it had spinning cups, and you had to bumb into the opposing teacup a certain number of times, all while avoiding vortexes! While not as advanced as Crash I am sure, it was still a fun little game, trying to capture the essence of the old "first wave" of NES games, like "Wrecking Crew", and "Ice Climber", and I *think* the name was "Chubby Cherub". :)

Martin: You are correct as far as using C&C to make my 3D maze.

It would be better suited for VB, but where is the challenge in that?
Some of the techniques I use to make my maze work can be used in
other games. I will continue to use C&C to develop my RPG. Not
because I have to, but because I love the challenge.

As for your maze generator, there is another challenge :D

Hey everybody, I think I just figured out a way of safely saving data to a user harddrive in a Vitalize game! It could be done using a high score table. When the user hits the save button just insert the necessary values in the out of the playing area located highscore table. When the user reloads his game next time he plays it just read the values from the highscore table. Because it is a highscore table it will allways save in the cncscore.ini file.

Heyyya newman! I just played GTS3 (how do you get that 3 up there!?). It was really good you know. But if you don't release the jump-button Gordon jumps up and down like a rabbit... a "Only one action when event loops" would sit good. Then, if you hold down the jump button when hitting the ceiling you get stuck until you release it (trigger, hint hint;). Anyway, it was a really good game. When will the full version come out?

Yay! I got my static IP! It won't be long now...

Izzy:
I doubt this can be done, if I am understanding what you want to do correctly. If you are trying to place data in a portion of memory to be later discovered by an object or app, then I don't think there is a way to do it. See, in Windows, the only memory that you can access is extended memory (even then, it's extremely difficult, and I don't remember the APIs off hand). However, on every system, there can be a different amount of extended memory, so the addressing varies from system to system. Unless you made that a variable too. Ugh, this is really complex. My brain hurts.

Howdy Yall :)

I see there isn't much new or anything I'd notice. :D
He he he...
Ok. Well. I was wondering if someone had VB or nkew VB
enough to help me a bit. I was thinking about figuring
out a way for Vb Apps to comunicate through Allocated
Space in RAM. This way it would beat the hech out of
writing to INI files. And If this is possible, maybe
someone who is familliar with the Plug-In Kit can work
out a way to store this info in the RAM resident memory
so that Vb or any other App can comunicate instantaneously.
And if all works out well, two diffenet Plu-ins could inteact
with each outher from different Projects. I was thinking more
of a Function in a DLL or in the Windows API that could do it.
I am still looking for a possibility. I hope something come out
of it. Any help would be more that appriciated. :)

Later, All.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I JUST WAS ABLE TO DOWNLOAD DEFENDER SIRA!!!!!!!

Ahem...

Sprite: Defend Sira is so cool! Commander Keen memories came flooding back right when I entered the menu!!! Btw, I loved how you made the scrolling help screens, credits, etc, AND the level selection! There was 1 tiny little bug I found during gameplay: sitcking to the bottom of obstacles, and the top of the screen. I would recommend Sira to NOT stop when hitting the top of the screen, and this little bit of code should go when Sira hits the bottom of obstacles:

Event:
(Sira) collides with background
+ animation Jumping is playing

Action:
Ignore Control

Event:
Animation Falling is playing

Action:
Restore control

That will get rid of sticking to the bottom of obstacles. You can also replace collides with background with "leaves area at top" if you want to, but I think making Sira stop when hitting th etop makes the pla area a bit too cramped.

But who am I to say that! Kudos to you Sprite! For the best platform game out there!

All hail GFP! Sprite is supreme ruler of platform games!

Thanks to Chris P and apologies to Cragmyre for flaking on
the 3dmaze hosting thing... It has been available on my
site.... but there was no link to it... (Me being to busy
to update the pages...)

Now the question on my mind is, does 3d maze take advantage of
what K&P / C&C is best at? IMHO C&C is best for 2d action
games with lots of sprites.. Seems like it would be much
easier to write 3d maze in VB or Delphi...

On another similiar note, has anyone written a decent maze
generating routinue? IE something that will create a maze
of arbitrary size that is ALWAYS solvable... I fiddled with
it for a while and decided that C&C made it to difficult...

peace,
mmason

Jonm: I am not sure about pricing yet.

I wasn't referring to yourname.christiansdomain.com. I am trying to come up with a way to allow you to have yourname.com running off your OWN server on your OWN computer with a dynamic IP. Caching is a problem here, however. You can also have www.yourname.com/yourname running off of my server - that's easy.

Silky's server will beat the heck out of mine when it comes to speed. I'm not sure what tne offers for cgis, so I won't comment on that. :-)

Chris - yourname.dragonfire.com is an example of what I am terming a "fake" domain. It's all done thru server manipulation it's not registered with Internic, a company might charge for it, but it does not have it's own unique IP #, therefore there is no Internic charge.

Since is does NOT have it's own IP....it's like a vanity license plate. One of the advantages of having a true domain is if you switch servers, Internic finds YOU...that does not happen with these. You would still have to go back and contact everyone that was linked to you to change your URL, etc....

I HATE MATHS! (so why did I do an engineering course?) As for beer, I can't stomach it after my 18th in March, so I stick to Vodka.. Max C - Hmm.. I thought you were in VReal.. Also, tomorrow at 10:10PM I fly home for the start of the holidays, which means I _might_ update the VReal pages and I'll definitely be on IRC! Silky: Were you referring to me, when you said Chris? I got confused. :) Also, if I signed up to, say, www.simplenet.com, and I signed up for the domain thing, would I have to register with InterNic? Or if I signed up with, www.vii.com and got a VIRTUAL domain, would I have to register? What about with www.dragonfire.net, becuase they also offer a service like http://yourname.dragonfire.net. Would you have to register?

Thanks

Silky, I haven't done any research on Dynamic Domains, guess I was wrong :)

Drippy, No, something like http://pug.simplenet.com is a SUBdomain, so only simplenet.com had to register. I hope I don't need to go further into this...

Silky <silky@tne.net>
- Wednesday, August 27, 1997 at 18:23:58 (CDT)

Pug....no...that's not the way it works.

A Dynamic IP name is a "fake" domain, it is not transportable if you move it...and many browsers cannot handle the protocol that lets it work, therefore for them, it doesn't and your site does NOT come up.

Secondly, Internic charges 100.00 alright, but that is for TWO years, the first two...not just the first year. It is then 50.00 every year to renew it.

Chris - Ummm, does your dialup provider know you plan on being connected 24/7? Most rather frown on that, or at least charge a significantly higher fee for the service. Also, unless you can get at least a 56K modem (usually also higher) your PC can certainly be pressed into service as a webserver but it's gonna be S...L...O...W.

Just thought I'd clear up a couple misconceptions....did I mention we also host? <----yes, that is a shameless plug

Drippy, let me state this again.
If you're using yourname.com (doesn't matter if it's dynamic, virtual, etc.), you MUST register with InterNIC! Which is $100 the first year, and $50 each addition year.
Ok?

WOW!!! I've just entered the wonderful world of DYNAMIC DOMAIN NAMES!!! If I get everything working, I will probably sell them along with webspace. Basically what this means is you can run yourname.com off of your home computer without having to have a static-ip. If people would be interested, please let me know. DON'T EMAIL ME. MY EMAIL IS SCREWED UP... post it on the wall along with KNP stuff... but don't waste wall space just telling me that there's interest.

I began writing the web pages for my KNP arena today... so far so good. I'm registering my domain name as we speak as well. I'll let you know ASAP what it is and when it will be up. :)

So I'll just take programming courses on the side. I've already had a lot of programming experience in the past (I would use whatever I could learn to make games), but I've since abandoned it for the easier-to-use-and-alot-more-fun K&P. Erik: I think you can avoid some of the crashes in Hellfire if you clean it up a bit. Every level has tons of unneeded objects and events. Delete those and the game should run more smothely, not to mention taking less space on the harddrive.

The demo of Zero could be found at: http://www.dragonfire.net/~Havoc/zerodemo.zip (I better put that link in my Zero preview).

MMason: What I meant to put was: Jump button not pressed and animation jumping is playing. SO, this is what it should look like:

This is what you do to the character:

+Set jump strength to what you want to be the chatracters maximum height.
+Set the gravity to what you want.
+Make sure the jumping animation is set to looping.

Events Editor:

+Condition: Repeat when "jump button" isn't pressed and animation jumping is playing.
+Event: Stop character.

That's what it should have been. This technique is going to be implimented into MegaMan: Infinity to achieve more of a MegaMan like movement.

Uhm...Hi guys. Last evening I had, what do you call it...an ethic - yes I think that's the word - an ethic problem, where I had to go one way or the other. Should I choose to do my math homework, or work on Elven, that's the question. Anyway, at last I made a decision to do the math homework first, then maybe afterwards, if I had the time, work on Elven. But when I saw that I had done all my work at school, I saw it as a sign from God that if I would work on Elven, he would free me from all math homework ;)

Oh well, that's it.

College sucks. I started last week and I don't know anyone. It's really lonely and boring. Nobody there has ever even HEARD of C&C, TGF, or KNP.

Ahh, well...

On the brighter side of things, I got my static IP address today! I will register my domain tomorrow morning!!! Hooray! I'm hoping to get my server up by the beginning of September. I will be selling web-space, and I will have a special arena for KNP/C&C/TGF. There will be many different pricing plans with literally hundreds of combinations. I have already written a whole bunch of cool cgi's. Also, I have 25.5 gigs of space to burn, so I don't need to worry about space too much :)
We will also do domain registration.

I FINALLY got this STUPID Network Filesharing thing to work with Windows 95... I can share files across my server now. It seems for some reason Microsoft forces you to have NetBEUI installed. I also got my proxy server up, so I get full net access from all my computers at home with only ONE connected to the internet (my server)! It's really cool.

When my server first gets up, it will have a 28.8 modem as its means of communicating with the world. By October 1, I will have upgraded to 56k ISDN.

OK, thanks a lot! Email me with Q's and C's!

Okay boys and girls ... is there such thing as a customized platform engine where your character smoothly goes up and down any different kind of inclined floors (ramps) and, when bumping into ceilings very close to her, goes down? (Problem I have.)

TGF is kind of horrible at platform movement ... works nicely on ramps, but is stuck whenever you hit your head against the ceiling or keep the jump button pressed down. Grrr ...

Impulse:
If you use the logic:
NOT Jump button pressed THEN stop character

How does the character walk?

I would try something like:
If Jump_button pressed then:
Set jump_counter = 5
Set speed = jump_speed
Set direction = 5
jumping = true
If Jump_button held and Jump_counter less Jump_max
Increment jump_counter
Every Jump_counter/100 of a second
set direction = direction - 1
If direction less direction_min AND jumping then
direction = direction_min
If collision with platform etc
Stop jumping

This should give you nice arced jumps whose amplitude
is controlled by the amount of time the button is held...

Hey all,

I just figured out how to do the variable jump height thing. It's actually pretty simple.

This is what you do to the character:

+Set jump strength to what you want to be the chatracters maximum height.
+Set the gravity to what you want.
+Make sure the jumping animation is set to looping.

Events Editor:

+Condition: Repeat when "jump button" isn't pressed.
+Event: Stop character.

That's it that's all. I can't believe I didn't figure it out sooner.

Congrats Chris!!

You should try the enhanced version of the maze, I doubt you will beat that one easily :)

The problem with the maze you beat is two fold. One, since it is random, it sometimes places the exit in the next room. No big challenge there. And two, if you know the cheat, which is typing the name of the designer, you will be instantly transported to the exit.

I'm just glad to see that people still play the maze. For anyone interested, please write and I'll get you the second version. All this while I'm working on the third version, a complete RPG using the 3D maze engine.

And if you want to not center him when he leaves, but leave him on the opposite edge he left - it's the same basic. The simple method would now require a few more event, and the complete Zelda-looking method quite a few more, but if you understand my previous message, you just stick to the same basic.

I meant that scrolling when the screen smoothly sweeps over the screen to the other side and the hero stands still and gets wiped with the background to the other side.

Siggen the solver <stigeidissen@hotmail.com>
- Tuesday, August 26, 1997 at 09:13:58 (CDT)

Well, there is one very easy way, which only takes one - yup, that's ONE - event line. It goes like this :
IF PLAYER IS CLOSER THAN 0 PIXELS TO WINDOWS EDGE, THEN CENTER WINDOW POSITION IN PLAYFIELD AT 0,0 FROM PLAYER.

But to make the same effect as in Zelda, it requires a few more event lines. You have to stop movement, and instead of centering directly, it shall "scroll" until the player reaches the center, then the movement must be activated. It's a very good alternative, cause scrolling sometimes goes slow on non-Pentiums based PC.

But to make the complete Zelda-scrolling, you must, when the player is closer than 0 to Windows Edge, set alterable value (or any value) of player to 1, 'cos if we didn't it would scroll a bit, then see he wasn't close anymore and stop scrolling.

So, if Alterabe Value A (AVA) is 1, then you must add pixels to the scrolling value. And a new event has to see if the player is centered, if he is, set AVA to 0.

That's a pretty rough description.

Well, I got a problem. I am working on a Zelda-game, and wonder if that particular Zelda1-scrolling is possibly to do with TGF. You know, when you leave the play-area on left, scroll it so Link gets in the other corner of the screen. Any suggestions?

When classes start, you're screwed as far as free time goes. I've got 27 hours a week this semester, and it's not easy to find time to do stuff other than go to lectures, drink and sleep occasionally... FlameWars are pointless and it does show a movement in the wrong direction. I believe this whole thing got blown WAY out of proportion. Kevin: I welcome the Realm and hope it will breath even more life into the KNP community. I aplogize if I offended you at all, My intentions were . I think I may be a little too "raw" for knp... =)

However. I think we would all benifit if we loosened up a little. Because we're all in this together and we all have something in common. Creation. We all love the same thing, and when people turn against each other... Well, that, of course, is the inverse of creation... destruction.

Hello everyone!

First off, please excuse any spelling errors, because legally, I should not be typing right now. :) Let me be honest, college is exactly what I thought it would be... a huge party! Maybe it is because of the pre-start of school fun, but it HAS-BEEN-A-BLAST! :)
College is the life... let me describe how my night was... I got home from buying books and getting my parking permit, I had a nice dinner, and then I went to my dorm and went to work on Future Fantasy (my Knp RPG), while my girlfriend and etc. were getting ready to go out. Once they were ready, I simply saved my progress, and went out and had a blast (I am sure most of you know what I mean), Now, I wouldn't dare working on FF now (I don't want to mess it up), but I made soem great progress, and still managed to live the college life! :) At first I thought my Future Fantasy progress and Realm progress might slow down, but it is at a steady rate, and I am having a great time!
We'll see what happens when classes start! thanks for all your good wishes! :)

Your friend,
Kevin Smets

About Chris sound problem: Have you cut and pasted levels, have you deleted the first event you made where the wave file was used (for some reason that could cause sound trouble even if the wave file is used in other events)?

Enjoy yourself, David, Kevin, and Charles ... off to college!
And me off to high school.

Chris, for your first problem, perhaps you have leftover coin objects around your play area, or you have your event stuck in a group that is deactivated at that time. (Remedy : have condition check for inside the play area only, or move event line out into the open main area.)

For the second problem ... TGF (or C&C, in your case) does that sometimes, not often. I don't know why.

Kevin S and Dave W - Enjoy yourselves at college, guys.. I've been at university (college in Australia) for three quarters of a year now, and it's been great.. A few things to remember though. (1) When living in a dorm, residential college etc, ALWAYS lock your room.. There are no real thieves around here, but people do strange things to your room if you don't (I learnt from experience) (2) Attend lectures occasionally, it helps (3) Learn quickly to function normally when hung-over (Thursdays are a bad day for me, all Hildas social events are on Wed night) (4) Participate in as many things as possible, it helps you meet people and you make a lot of friends quickly (yes, participation in beer drinking contests counts) Also, if you think you're not going to miss your old home, you ARE.. It's great to go home during the holidays and see your parents, dog and PPP ACCESS Enjoy, guys.. Work hard, drink lots and have a bloody good time.. (try to pass, too) Craig.

I've tried every thing-last coin was destroyed, # of coins =0, etc. etc. etc. Please help mne! If I can't figure this out, The Extacy 2 will never be finished!!

Also, a sound will play in the wrong event! Say, the ball hits the platform, it's SUPPOSED to play hit.wav, but instead, it plays powerup.wav! What's wrong?

To all who are expierencing trouble with DOS boxes appearing, here is the solution. (KNP only)

You must staple yourself to the bul... no, that's not right...

You must replace your knpg.dll and knps.dll files that reside in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

You can get these files from the root directory of your K&P CD.

---------------------------------------------------------------

To all those having trouble with insufficient memory problems - this has nothing to do with memory. (CNC and TGF only)

You must replace your cncs.dll and cncs32.dll files from your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory with ones from your CD root directory.

Hope this helps,

Philip W. Kelley

I noted with interested chris crafts and briesters recent announcements about a MCI based mod player...
I have looked into it and will summerize my findings:
The MCI mod player is a 16bit hack of an OLD version of
the dos MIDAS sound system.
Good news:
It does work with C&C! You can play mods at ~22K with 8 bit
mixing (This is not so great) It only seems to support
4 channel mods and st3m reliably. You just use simple
MCI commands that Chris has nicely summarized on his page.
Bad news:
The mciMOD driver takes over the WAVE device and you CANNOT
play any other wave files while your mod file is playing!

The newer version of MIDAS has the ability to compile with
direct sound support and thus SHOULD be able to work fine
with C&C... I have tried the bundled binary in conjunction w.
C&C and it works fine... I had a go at compiling MIDAS from
scratch w. the direct sound in, but I kept getting errors in
the library.... The authors of MIDAS do support VC++ which
is good! It should not be to difficult to compile this into
an extension with simple actions like load module/play/stop
etc...
I have too much work to do right now... If anybody wants to
take a stap at it, let me know...

peace and thankful to be healthy again,
mmason

Quick question,

Who out there can help me get a Variable Jumping Height Engine(you know, longer you hold the jump button, the higher the guy goes) to work? I've tried to think of a couple ways and the Eggit bounce movement doesn't work, and the Zeb jumping commands are too complicated and don't seem(well, by their looks) to be able to be converted to do something like that. Any help would be great. I can't believe that it wasn't implicated in to CnC to begin with.

Thanks,

Hello, Samkim: I had this same problem 2 times now. I did not had the memory when i played a game, to solve this problem with Click&Create you have to install any other c&c or tgf game in the directory: c:\windows

Then everything works again, well it worked for me:-)
I hope this helps,

But what I do now to solve it is make my levels, engine, graphics but never run it but instead save the game and shut down and then reboot this allows the computer to clear it's memory and alos here's a tip never run the level in side cnc just click run whole game instead. I hope i've helped in any way

When I scrolled down a bit, I saw your note, Mystion. That's EXACTLY what happened to this friend of mine. He got a "not enought memory" message in a DOS windows. I believe the reason for it being in a DOS window is that it is Windows 3.11, but for the memory part - I have noe clue!!!

MusicSamkim
- Monday, August 25, 1997 at 13:15:47 (CDT)

Mystion,

I sympathize but have nothing to say...

To all other Klikers:
I've been having a wee bit of trouble with my new puzzle game... I loaded up C&C and wrote two levels + a working engine. To my chagrin, when I hit play game as finished, I got a black screen and menu bar and a lockup. I rebooted the computer. Now it says I have insufficient memory to run my puzzle game, which is ridiculous because it worked FINE a while ago, and I have enough memory to run things like Medieval Muon (C&C game) which is SCROLLING 1000x1000 (my puzzle isn't, it's 640x480 static screen).

This is really, really inconvenient, and it's the first time it's happened...

Hey all! (Translation: Can't someone get me back on mIRC???)

Well, I've just started making a new game. Here is the description. Its called Crash.

Crash is gaming reduced down to its essence. No FMV, no funky 3D, no big loading times, just pure game. The way to play is simple.
There are two balls. (*ahem*) The way to win is to crash your ball into the other's and sucessfully crack it. If your going faster than thier ball and you crash, their's breaks. If your going slower, your's breaks. And if your going the same speed, you both bounce. One would be tempted to just race around at full speed, but the higher your speed is, the less control you have. I've programmed it so that it wiggles around like a jumping bean at highest speed. Winning is purely luck.

(Coincedtally, this game will have Dave Matthew's Band's "Crash" in it. And no, i don't like them. They.... (fears a "child-war") I just don't like them.

It'll be out in a couple of days. I'll post when its done.

Bye

KH

Silky <silky@tne.net>
- Monday, August 25, 1997 at 06:01:40 (CDT)

Same principle that was with K&P, you are using THEIR engine to do this with, it's not a programming language per se. One of the biggest differences between TGF and C&C is the ability to sell your games, the price of the license with C&C is in the purchase price.

For those that still might think C&C is too high, you should have been around with K&P "sold" a license....was about twice the price of what C&C goes for.

If you still think this unreasonable, count your blessing they didn't decide to go with "royalty" payments on units sold. That too exists in the software business.

Siggen <stigeidissen@hotmail.com>
- Monday, August 25, 1997 at 05:54:28 (CDT)

One question has been bugging me since I saw the TGF banner for the first time :

Why aren't you allowed to sell your games with The Games Factory? I think you don't need any licence to create a game you sell as shareware. If you just have the usual VB version (not enterprise) you can STILL sell them as shareware, and I think this should count for any programming tool.

So is this just a way Europress took to earn some more money?

Because I'm allowed to create a game with - say - Qbasic (which is FREE) and sell it as shareware. Not as software though. That's what I've learned at least.

Siggen
- Monday, August 25, 1997 at 05:43:25 (CDT)

And if you want 'em to move up and down, just alter the Y values the same way as I did with the X's. If you want to change speed, just change the number the X value changes with every cycle.

Siggen <stigeidissen@hotmail.com>
- Monday, August 25, 1997 at 05:34:46 (CDT)

Well, I'm guessing you want the upper to move left when the lower moves right, right?

Well here's a solution. UO = upper object, LO = lower object

REPEAT WHILE LEFT KEY IS PRESSED
- set X value of UO to X(UO)+4
- set X value of LO to X(LO)-4

REPEAT WHILE LEFT KEY IS PRESSED
- set X value of UO to X(UO)-4
- set X value of LO to X(LO)+4

If you want them to stop moving when hitting an obstacle, you can negate an X value check in the movement event. You have to make two Repeat while left key is pressend and repeat while right key is pressed, 'cos or else would both stop when one hit's an obstacle/leaves the play area.

If you want to make to seperate movements, you can make on of them in level editor and the other in events, which I always prefer since it gives you total control.

I mean I have one object which I move to the top of the screen, then another object on the same time must move to the
bottom of the screen, and also from left and right."

Hello I'm just here to tell you I'm working on Dark Power the revised version expect no cheesy platfrom movement but movement used in zeb, many options like high detail/blood, speech, great music, a fully rerendered intro, new suprises, all redone graphics and more. I should have a preview on my web page in a day or so. In the meanwhile why don't you go to my site and download Ball of Defiance.

Woo! Rikus is back! Cool. :)

Rikus: The Extacy 2 will not be done for at least 1 year. :( I have already gotten the 3D fmv intro in it, and I've made a menu which is accessed through the KEYBOARD, and not the mouse. ;) It's going to be huge. It's 5 megs already, and only 1 level is done. And, no word on Sim-Fish 2 yet... I am still mostly planning it.

I am glad to see that the flamewars are over, so everything should be back to normal. For a while, at least. ;P

Well... come to #k&p

I Don't check the wall one day and we have 25 new posts featuring a totally new freakin' flame war. This is really starting to make me sick. A healthy flame war ounce in a while is fine, but it's been choas here the last month. Silky's gives us such a great service and whe totaly abuse it! I know I may have contributed to the flames, but know more, it's really sukcs. Please stop all of this.

Hello people,

The last 2 lines of the flame war:

Kevin: i did not flame you in my last post, how did you get that idea? I just said you had no reason in flaming me.

End of flame war for me

In these past 2 day's i got allot of e-mail from people that wanted the reviewers guild and the ap page back. (wow cool:-)
I even got allot e-mail from non-k&p'ers that wanted the ap page updated:-)
To show you all that i want to end this silly flamewar, i am going to update both the ap page and reviewers guild this: "Thursday" With new reviews. I am going to work on it this week to get it done before friday becouse i wont be around here next weekend. (kermis-4 day's) Beta testers saw the first level of dragons tail (eggit) today and they tought it was a mix between eggit/and a differend kind of puzzle game, cool:-)

The intro for locked 7 is done, and i am now going to download that new game from the link that sprite gave us.

Come on people lets go back to what we are really good at making games, becouse we all are bad flamers:-)

Also who is making the graphics for kevin's new site?

When will the internet multyplayer programm be done and will it be freeware?

Sprite: When i sira going to be done?

David: Any new news on walkerton 4?

Anders: When is your site going to be updated again?

Also i saw vitalize today in pc-format they reviewed it and
it go a: 82% Pc-format liked it.

Chris: When will the extacy 2 be finished? Any news on sim fish 2?

Christian: Sorry i will change the links sorry.

Well i hope everyone can awnser my questions.
Thanks bye,

Ah, ok. What's going on? Mystion, are you back from Israel? Or are you still posting at the $50/min library? Is Rikus gone yet, or is he just at that 4 day fiesta? Kevin is getting flamed regardless of the fact that he claimed to be impersonated by Smets? Maybe impersonation is just his way of starting over from being such a mean person. Anywhoo, send any comments that you have on this message to ChiefAdvisor@aol.com I'm sure he'd be glad to help. :o)

Okay. Kevin has a point. Tobester: Your post was stupid and insulting. Later your only appology is a casual "Chill out"?!?! I'm with ya, Kevin. Sure some of my posts are against you but, you speak calmly (most of the time) and can express your point without using profanities. What's with it with profanities, 'round here anyway? Sure, most of you censor them, and sure some of you NEVER use them, but a small portion does. Using cuss words, in my eyes, are only to make up for ones, LACK OF COMMUNICATION skills.

Sprite: Please. In most of my posts i try and keep the offender centered. Did you read the one that said "Not all of you, only the "Rikus-crackers" about every five lines? I slip up once and you're all over me. Of course I know that not EVERYONE is after Rikus. I'll bet it's only a small portion. But with all the chaos surrounding him, it sometimes seems like it. Its called an exaggeration. No offense, just clearing some stuff up.

Siggen, or Rikus, for that matter.. are you Stig or Rikus? You put name: Siggen and said:
Bye,

Rikus.

Anyway, my little comment, don't listen to tobester..at all! I don't get something..how come as soon as Kevin came, people had problems, and they doubted him. Soon this erupted to flames, just cuz some of us are sickos and enjoy these wars. And then you blame it on him.
WHEN Kevin first came, he had the GREATEST of intentions, but then people started making him out as a low-life! What are you people? The media?! Kevin was nice to everyone out here and presented his idea in a just and fair way. But then people started saying to themself..oh no, this guy is planning something, lets let everyone know how much of a jerk I KNOW this guy is going to be. If I were Kevin, I would've been mad TOO! so why don't you leave him alone until the Realm comes out and try and be as supportive and pleasant to him as you would everyone else.

Ok, I agree with Craig's last post. I don't come here much. WHY? If I want to be/read flames
I have Maxis' board on AOL (which is leaving).

There's three things folks usually do that causes nothing but trouble :
Defensiveness, Paranoia and Righteousness.
Meaning, being very touchy and quickly leaping on anybody who questions
you, assuming there's a grand conspiracy to make your life miserable and thinking
that you're always right in any situation... the net brings out the worst in
folks sometimes.

Ok, back to the subject. CnC2 testers should of recieved the Alpha, it came FedEx... Hooray!

--- START OF NON-FLAME MESSAGE---

Okay, let's settle this all down and let everyone for the last time read the comment that made some jerks start this whole shitty flame war ;)

Hello, I just played mold 2 and i liked it so much that ap is
going to publish it, like we did with The Extacy. We only do this when we think this game is going to be a classic. If a game has the ap logo on it this means that the game is of hight quality,
Mold 2 has great graphics, great music and great gameplay,
i will be beta testing it myself so there will be no bugs in it.

Mold 2 will be out soon and you can download it soon from the amazing productions page. Keep wathcing this space for more info on this game.

Bye,

Rikus

I don't wanna here any crappy word related to this anymore. This flamewar had divided up in so many I'm really tired now.

Oh, and yes, I just have a couple of beta testers for the RPG Elven (www.angelfire.com/ga/achogames/preview.html), so I could really need about 5-8 more. Just write an e-mail to me.

--- END OF NON-FLAME MESSAGE---

cheers

**sigh** It's about time I stuck my oar into this flamers paradise.. Firstly, does it really matter if Rikus takes a month's break? There ARE other people who can make games, y'know.. This is a hobby for gods sake, not a profession.. Secondly, Kev in.. Try not to get _too_ annoyed at things said against you, not everyone's out to get you.. I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. EVERYBODY, LAY OFF KEVIN! Ok, it may as well be a global message to everyone who was flaming to SHUT UP and just LET IT BE.. It's seriously made me consider deserting Silky's, as the only thing that happens here nowadays are blatant plugs and flames.. Where is the intelligent discussion? Where are the people with genuine skill and respect for our artform? Also, t o tobester... If you reckon you're such a hot flamer, try posting a few times in alt.flame and alt.evil and watch yourself get torn apart completely.. Trust me, you're making yourself out to be a complete arrogant bastard and it's annoying me immensely. . Andy Hull - Well, thanks for the comments about VReal.. **blush** I'd update my webpage if I didn't have a Unix chat client to write by Tuesday, and a pub to go to tonight.. Holidays are in a week's time, though.. Hey! That means I'll be back on IRC! from the 29th to the 6th, look for me on #k&p.. Craig.

Kevin Smets <Smets97@aol.com>
- Sunday, August 24, 1997 at 02:16:48 (CDT)

What the HELL?
My last post was for PEACE, and for all of you to DROP the subject.Than I first get SILKY, who comes in here in her defense (ease off), then I get a whole armada of people YELLING at me again, WHY? Because I posted a message that tried to end this stupi d conflict?
YOU all need to chill out and give peace a chance. You are all saying that I HAVE been so rude and so hateful, when i was trying for peace! YOU all were the ones who ATTACKED me before ANY OF YOU knew me... why? BECAUSE I posted a DAMN Realm message. Th is all looms back to the fact that YOU guys can't accept NEW people, that ARE NOT afraid to speak their mind. I don't care if it is SILKY that I am speaking my mind to, I have not been raised to keep quiet all my life. Letting things go is dangerous in li fe, and will not get you far in this world.
Get this... THE REASON you guys all HATE ME, is because I ACTUALLY posted, and spoke my mind! GET OFF IT. I can damn well say any thing I want here, to Silky, to Rikus, to Sprite, to anyone I want, because none of you have any right to be "honored". The only ones I honor right now are David Willis (who has been friendly to me from day one), Havoc (always a nice guy), and a few others who KNOW who they are.
As for you, TOBESTER, I don't know who you are nor do I care to. Just do yourself a favor and GET OFF MY CASE, because you are just one of those followers looking for a reason to fight.
And Silky, ...I know you , Like, "Do this for a living", but don't TELL me you weren't the slightest bit rude in your post to me. "Good Luck babe".
I have a voice, I have opinion, and I have rights. Once you learnt hat, we will all get along just fine.

"Kev, lets upt aside our differences, pal" -Tobester

- Sunday, August 24, 1997 at 02:01:28 (CDT)

Oh yeah..I'm not done yet.
I don't really understand HOW everyone began to hate Kevin, I've been watching, and soon people just started getting mad. People began saying uh-oh, he can't do THAT! So I'll let it be known, so someone else sticks up for them, and says GIVE him and peace a chance. A while later this gets to Kevin who made the mistake of not reading the messages after the first one flaming him, so he gets off his rocker and writes something witty to this person. This person doesn't interpret it well and yells at him, and just so person #2 can get in on it, he yells at Kevin too, so Kevin comes back hissing, and pisses people off so we all eventually hate him.
Kevin, your big mistake was telling us too soon. You gave the people too much damn time to think. Sorry.
If I have offended anyone in this, why don't you tell me, so I can give you a witty comeback and you all will get mad at me until I leave for a "few months".

Yes that's me. You know who I am.

Just a little message:

*You people make me sick*

Okay now, I go away to Space Academy for ONE week and I get back and the wall is in disorder. YOU're mad at RIKUS because JON HILL stole your graphics and KEVIN SMETS is going to flame all of us for not understanding his friendship with SILKY and TOBES TER got stoned so he yelled at SAMKIM to fix his damn midis just so ANDYHULL could get Mold 2 out, thus allowing ZACK FOWLER to review it and maybe give DAVID WILLIS along with all his cronies, ANDREW, and FAKE ANDREW a chance to kidnap the makers of mIRC and hold them for ransom at a very high price, only payable by DAVID MURRAY or FAT PUFFIN, thus confusing MYSTION totally, making him go off and write a crazy story that vaguely follows last weeks events, because he was mad.
Remember, you can change around anything in capital letters! Mix and Match for a capital delight!
So, I'm just mad.

Kevin Smets <Smets97@aol.com>
San Diego , California USA - Saturday, August 23, 1997 at 22:34:41 (CDT)

Okay, this is quite humorous for me.

First off, Rikus, I know I don't know you. I know I have never chatted with you. I DO know what you have done for everyone here, and I am extremely impressed. I have played most of your games, and have ENJOYED THEM. What my "flame" as you say it was bas ically pointed out was that from MY opinion (whihc is something everyone deserves), it seemed as though your post was a big boas for you and your name. Now that you have explained yourself, I admit I was WRONG.
Now you claim you are going to leave AP for a while, and just leave everything. WHY? Because you took some posts as "flames"? GEEZ, WHAT about me, Rikus? When I came in here, EVERYONE, even SILKY had guns-a-blazin! Did I cry and say I am postponing The Realm until further notice? NO. I continued on to my merry business. Now you are saying you are leaving, and everyone and their mother are blaming me... the AOLHELLSPAWN from the outside. GET A LIFE GUYS. My post gave Rikus NO reason to leave, I only STAT ED MY OPINION.
For those of you who are now flaming me, and blaming me for all this... go ahead, I can take it. I think Rikus should be left alone, he explained his case, and even I UNDERSTAND. If he leaves, thats his own inability to habdle the pressures. I ask that he does NOT leave, for he is truly an exceptional programmer. And everyone, STOP using me for yuor scapegoat, and realize that my post should have in NO WAY caused RIkus to "quit" as he says.
If you STILL have a problem with me... start the flaming, gather the masses, LINE THEM UP, I don't care. It is the fault of all of you who keep this going, and looking for someone to blame. You all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Rikus, I wish you the best in whatever you do, and I do ask that we chat sometime, so I can explain to YOU where I am coming from.

Kevin

Hi - I just saw Rikus's review page... and WOW! I got game of the week! Well, that's because my game was the only one reviewed... but hey... STILL!!! :-)

Rikus, I don't know if I could persuade you to do this.... but the link going to download this game right here goes to some other game. Could you change it? That's only if you want to, and have time.

To everyone, the actual link is http://members.tripod.com/~cw/twig32.zip. Also, the game is not finished. It will just stop after level 2-1 or something. I haven't been able to finish it like I promised since my computer is down, and I don't have C&C inst alled on the computer that I'm on now.

OK, thanks,

Christian Wiehl
christianwiehl@geocities.com, - Saturday, August 23, 1997 at 12:55:46 (CDT)

Welp, my server is (sort of) working. It freezes in weird places. But I've started working on a mega KNP area. I'm not going to be as ambitious as the guys from TMR, and I doubt it will be as big, but it will still be nice. :)

One thing that I've seen on the wall that I was kind of upset about... the flaming has now moved on to Kevin Smets. People are asking him what "rights" he has to flame someone and etc, etc... Well, it's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Now I don't want to start another long string of posts here, so I'll just say this: ANYONE, regardless of what you say and what you do (as long as you take credit for it, ie NOT pretend you are someone else), in MY opinion you have the right to do so, and to continue to partake in any online community.

I think that the second we start a war, the second we "excommunicate" someone, the second someone gets offended and decides to leave... that will be the starting second of the downfall of the entire internet community.

I mean, if you go back over all the posts on the wall and read them and compare them to history, you will find amazing similarities between the way we are acting and ancient civilizations and dynasties. Most of these civilizations failed miserably, and I' d hate to see that happen here. Just my two cents, and again.

I think flames are OK, but I wish that we could have a separate place for flames, while everyone else could continue to post about REGULAR things. One thing that I don't know if anyone's noticed about me, I try to remain extremely neutral in any subject.. . especially flames. That's why I've never been flamed. Now I'm not asking that everone does the same, because opinions are important, but I think that if there were this many flames in the movie Backdraft, nobody would have survived in the end.

Assumption is the mother of all failures.

If you really think that the ENTIRE crowd - including me - here wants Rikus to break down, Ken Hughes, you're wrong. I've known him to be a nice person, really, and I've downloaded just about every game he has created. I might not like all of them, but it 's something.

And happy birthday, Andy Hull !

Hello, Okay here it go's:

The Andrew thing: Last night i talked to a differend andrew on efnet, we had a big fight and he asked me to fire him on the wall so i did. Now a day later i talked to andrew and it seems that it was not him. It was someone else i did not know his server adres so i did not know if the guy from last night was the real andrew.
I know andrew's real server adres now. Again if you talk to someone on irc first check his server name to see if its really him. I would like to know who faked the whole fight that made a new flame war? So flamers are you all happy now?
Lets move on....

Now that i know this and after a long tought, i will keep low for 2 weeks, i have updated the quild with 2 new reviews (1 is a kewl 1 from mitch) And my hp will not be updated next week (kermis)

So you wont hear from me for 2 weeks, becouse i want this stupid flame war to end. And hey if i am not here you have nothing to fight about anymore.

So i did not quit ap i am going to lay low for 2 weeks. Also i am giving all the ap members total freedom. If you dont want to be a member of ap anymore just dont e-mail me anymore this month. If you want to be a member again: E-mail with the subject: joi n or something.

About eggit: Eggit was original from zack, i never ever said that i made that game you alway's see on all the credits from all the eggit games: Original idea: ZACK FOWLER, new levels: Rikus Kras etc. Zack gave 1 litle mini demo game with the screen size : 15.15 or something really smal and asked me if i could make a game of it. I did and it was a winner. He also made the orignal graphics for the game and again i never said that i made those graphics. Okay happy now? For all the flamers out there is that c leared out? really? can we move on okay.

Kevin: I really dont see why you have the right to flame me? You dont know me and you just got here and flamed the hell out of me.
You did not even know for real what was going on. I dont hate you thats becouse i never talked to you before.

Also everytime there is a flame war people think they give them the right to say that a game or person is bad. If you hate a game from ap and i have said this a million time: e-mail me what you dont like about it so i can learn from my mistakes and can ma ke a better game next time.

I hope this puts this thing to an end.

And for good old times: ITS WEEEKKEEEENDDD!!!! :-)

Bye,

Rikus
Come to irc

Finally, a comment that makes sense. To all you others: I hope you're happy! Closing down AP (albeit temporarily) was obvioulsy a hard thing for Rikus to do. To you losers with nothing other to do than crack on others I say:

Shame ON YOU! Get a life, guys. If you have nothing better to do than to envy other's sucess, then you truly are dumb. See, there's programs called:KNP, C&C and TGF. Rikus made his games on them. Why don't you all try to make better, instead of cons tantly trying to cut the man down?

OK....this is insane. All this rambling about which company is best. To every body flaming: Why do you care what other people think or say? I did what i thought was best with Mold 2 and that seemed to have created a flame war. Also notice I'm not in i t. With AP shutting down i guess feProductions will just release Mold 2 itself. I hope you all like it when it comes out.
in the meantime visit my page at its new adress....

http://fepro.home.ml.org

oh, and i wish more Knp "gangs" were like Vreal. Craig could update the pages more( hint, hint) and mabey help hype the games a little more but he ALWAYS distinguishes between Vreal and the author. He also doesnt mess with thier games, adding his name i n themm in the credits. Its very relaxed group and games arent rushed out as in other groups. You dont see them saying.... Destruction Carnival.....Sept. '97 they want the game to be done well, and so do I.

-------------------------------------------------------------

On a lighter note:

Yesterday was my birthday. Now I can drive.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Just get a life everyone. if you have to rip up AP's success then ask yourself why? is it because they have lots of members? Is it because you liked thier games? ( Who didn't love Eggit the fist time they played it? Sure it gets old but so does Resid ent Evil) Just my meandering.

Rikus, you don't need to do this. Its what THEY want. They crack on you in hopes to break you down. People with such low moral fiber obviously suffer form JEALOUSY! They've seen AP's games and they can't admit that they're jealous. They find every li ttle flaw in you and exploit it. The can do nothing else. It is your choice, but I can't help but think its a bad one.

David, please. Regardless of what our groups are called... DOES IT REALLY MATTER? No offense to you, but what kind of dumb comment was that? Soccer games are like that. A coach can "fire" players, right? Do you say "Soccer players act like Microsoft?" Of course not. Just cause they don't make money doesn't mean they aren't a group. Accually, now that I think about it "company" does sound kinda weird. But, one last question... Who in Zeus' BUTTHOLE cares? Certainly not I. If fact till you brought itt up, n either did anyone else. Fine, I cannot name a contributer for Exacty and the others (Eggit was Zack Fowler.) but, once again I pose the question... WHO GIVES A FREAKIN' HOOT? Even if people think AP was responsible for those games, well that's life. Many people say that Windows 95 was accually a copy of an earlier Apple project. So? If he gets credit, good for him. He did not try to get credit. Just cause some of us are mindless zombies, does that make Rikus bad? He did not say "I made Mold 2, it rocks!!! !" He said: "AP is releasing Mold 2, cause the creator said its okay and I think its a good game." While this may seem Role-Play-ish, hey that's life. If you can't stand it, oh well.

Well, Ive taken more than my share of space.
David: Please don't act like a child and turn this into a "child-war". I'm not saying that you do, just asking a friendly favor.

Sayonara.

Ok.. that still doesn't help the world Rikus. So I am not fired because of anything on the wall, instead because of something I did on IRC.. Is it because I can't come when you are on? I AM AT SCHOOL. I have made the biggest commitment of my life by go ing to a private school. It is 3 times harder and will help my life to be 3 times more successful. I also hafa work to pay for the tuition. So please announce to us all exactly what I did on IRC to have this happen. And you had better not be lying, beause I and Rpgfan have logs every time we are on. Is it because I am so mean to Rpgfan all the time? Well he did Almost nothing to provoke it, I realized this so onw I am doing my best not be be an ass to him.

so, Until you can give us all an exact reason,
I will be waiting.

Hello, OKAY thats it, Most of you all took 1 litle post totaly wrong. I tried to ignore all the flames in my last post. But i just can't. I can take much but most of you crosses my limmit.
So i want to say this:

I Rikus Kras am quiting Amazing Productions for a couple of months. Becouse everyone hates me now and saying things that are totaly not true. I worked hard and i mean hard on all the games i made, I DID NOT STEAL ANY games i helped everyone and gave every one credit for the games i made. Me quiting ap for a couple of months means that the reviewers quild will not be updated and that that dragons tail will come out in a couple of months.

I am doing this to get my head clear, becouse what you are flaming me about is not true. I let andrew go becouse not becouse the flames on the wall but becouse of irc and has nothing to do with you so you dont know what you all are talking about. Kevin: i dont know you att all but i have been around here for 1 year and when i first released locked i was so glad tht more then 1 person played my game. And i was really glad when i got more then 20 e-mail's everyday saying they liked my games. Just 1 second a go i was updating my homepage with nice review and making pictures of dragons tail i will stop that right now and i am going out.

You all pushed me way to far and i tried to make you all happy, at this point i am trying not to crie, yes you all made me a total wreck. I can't take this anymore. You know how hard it is to trow something away you worked on for along time? Well do you?< br>
amazin Productions will return. I dont know when maybe not at all maybe in 2 monts maybe next year. I want to thank everyone that played my games this past year , and to all my friends. I will still be on irc if you guy's need me. I will take down the ap pages.

Your friend,

Rikus

**Sigh** After spending a day doing real programming (a chat client, no less..) I'm stuffed.. I still have to finish a few things off, and then comment it (which should be great fun..) Upon reading David N's post, I immediately thought about whether I, as the "leader" (I prefer "member", we're all equal here..) of a game creating "group" had ever taken advantage of one the my "members".. After thinking for approximately 1 nanosecond, I concluded that I've never exploited "members" of VReal, ever.. That's probably why VReal's always attracted the top talent, credit is given where credit is due.. VReal or the games put out by it aren't meant to stroke my ego, but are there as an artform from the respective people who made them.. My games are never more important than other people's, and I'm not afraid to admit that there are a lot of more talented people out there than me.. VReal may be disorganised, have a "leader" who devotes hardly any time to making games and (unfairly) lacks the "appeal" of the likes of AP, but we've always had the best people wanting to work in our group.. I mean, currently we have Charles Tumino, Erik S and Jon Bell who have amazing talents, and in the past we've also had Andy Hull (IMHO, the MOST promising new developer), Philip Kelley and even Sprite wanted to join at one time (due to a rather nasty case of RPG envy.. :o) ) People like that don't want to join a group unless it's a bloody good one.. Just my 2 cents worth.. Craig.

David,

WHY the HELL are you taking apart MY POST now? I made that post asking why the heel someone would "FIRE" someone from a Knp "company". I am NOT rolepolaying, I was merely enquiring about that unsigned message that said "Andrew has been fired from AP", so DON'T attack MY post for relaying a question regarding the whole damn situation.
I think its LUDICROUS to form comapnies and then have people "fired". In my original post (Which was CUT OFF for some reason), even attacked AP for ACTING like Microsoft. Next time, David, before coming in here acting like some all powerful jedge, take a look at WHO you are bashing, and learn to keep your mouth shut.

Chris Craft : I have found a neat link for the MOD/XM/S3M MCI ...
it's at http://www.mod4win.com/betatest.htm. Something about beta test though, restriction. Darn. But, nevertheless, it is a place ...

David Nicolosi : Well put. I was offended myself when a lot of the people who made some AP games weren't mentioned in some people's comments. I also thought firing was a bit stupid ... "kicking-out" is a better term, since these are groups/organizations a nd NOT COMPANIES. (yeesh ... makes you shiver if you're in a freeware group/organization and someone asks you, "What company are you in?")

If you are a follower, you are going to be controlled and taken advantage of. No doubt about it. I'm in #k&p now.

Every time I come to this wall I can't help but laugh. I mean, look at you guys. Most of you are playing with the mentalities of 11 year olds (no offense to those who ARE 11)! You seem to have a difficult time distinguishing reality from fantasy.

First off, I must at least compliment Rikus for taking this whole "...quality" thing as nothing more than idiots babble. Obviously, I don't think Rikus' group, AP, has made any great games. The thing that bothers me the most is how stupid you guys sound when you type messages like:

""Why "fire" Andrew? That is absurd? I checked the WALL as far back as I could, and found no evidence that would allow such an act. It is apparant that Andrew cares about AP and loves to be a part of it, and you are "letting him go"? Rikus, or whoever is in charge of "employment", you're a bigger jerk than I thought. Andrew, I wish you the best of luck, you don't need them."

Fire? Company? What, is AP like Microsoft now? Hey, I call myself Nicolosi Productions and I make games in C&C! WOW! I'm suddenly some huge gaming company making tons of money! What the hell is wrong with you guys? It just all sounds so stupid. For abou t a year I have seen the same thing going on. Well, I guess its kind of like roleplaying for all of you. Kids will be kids.

Second, I feel that Rikus and the other self appointed "company leaders" are good and one thing and one thing alone, which is taking credit for other peoples hard work. I bet over 90% of the people here don't know any of the contributors to games like E ggit Gold, Extacy, and SOTLS. They all refer to them as Rikus' games. AP seems to stand for Rikus. At least one person was smart enough to see this (the guy who made that cool Spectre game).

For the rest of you who are smarter than that, I wish you the best of luck in your future pursuits. For those of you who will continue to take on the mentality of "AP is a company, and Rikus is the leader", then be prepared to get nowhere in real life. You are the followers while Rikus is the leader. Grow up please.

Dave Nicolosi

THE GAMES FACTORY WORLD

Hi All,

Just to distract you for a nano - the TGFW site has at last been updated and after 2 months - I can only beg your forgiveness. I had to change sites to do it, but complete control has been achieved!

With a change of interface, more game maker solutions and a healthy addition to the fellow authors zone, the site once again is yours to explore.

You'll find a gateway to the new site through the old address. Just to let newbies work for it, I won't mention the URLz :-)

Keep on creatin!

Thanks for your comments/theories. The Vitalize plug-in was tested on both Windows 3.X machines and Windows 95 machines, and we didnt experience any problems?

Your last theory about it being an American Windows 95 problem may well be true? However, I thought the English and US versions of Windows were the same? I am not sure... Any more suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Christian Wiehl
christianwiehl@geocities.com, - Thursday, August 21, 1997 at 09:19:39 (CDT)

Regarding the Vitalize problem:
I think the reason that Europress cannot replicate the problem is that they are using 16-bit machines (Windows 3.1/3.11). I've tested the software on over 5 machines now, and the 16 bit version functions properly.

The 32-bit version, when you run install, gets caught in an infinite loop. In continually decompresses compressed data (probably the bitmap for the opening Vitalize banner) and appends it to a temporary file in the directory specified by the TEMP environm ent variable. It keeps doing this over and over, which explains the lag time when running install, while the blue screen is sitting there with the cursor. Then you get a "%s Read Error," because it fills your hard drive up. All you have to do is delete th e temporary files in your TEMP directory. You won't be able to install Vitalize, however. Has anybody gotten this error while using the non-US version of Windows? That could be another reason why it doesn't work for Europress. Anyway, when your hard drive is full, you no longer have space for your swap file (virtual memory) to update, and programs run slow, or sluggish. Try to install anything else and you will have serious problems. Also, if Netscape is on the same drive as your TEMP directory, it will r efuse to load, since it requires a certain amount of cache space. This may explain why some of the people who usually post to the wall daily haven't posted. :-(

Important Announcement 2!

Yesterday an update was put on to the Vitalize web-site which eliminated a security issue that had recently been highlighted.

I have had an e-mail from a user who, when he tried to install the latest update ran into difficulties. It appears that the install program created a large temporary file on the hard disk whilst installing.

Several people at Europress and the development team in France have installed the latest version of Vitalize and experienced no such problem - if you have experienced this problem yourself please let me know details.

However, as a matter of precaution the latest update will be removed the Vitalize web site. The programmers are currently looking at the latest update and we will post a new update onto the Vitalize web site ASAP.

I can only apologise for this latest set back, hopefully the problem has been limited to a single user, but even so we will do our best to fix this problem.

Thank you for your patience.

If you wish to contact me:

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

I just got word from a very reliable source...there is a nasty bug in the install routine for the new Vitalize plugin. I WOULD ADVISE NOONE TO MESS WITH THIS TILL FIXED! The problem is writing a HD to capacity, with the following possible effect...

1. Your machine freezes.
2. Your registry files don't get properly written to disk.
3. Your FAT gets overwritten.
4. You're screwed.

Again, mess with at your own risk, until they get this corrected.
