Review: Dungeon TV Easter Special

Maybe it's not fair that I review a Peasants game but I didn't actually do much for this one (just fixed a few bodges and did some music). I thought it would be a good idea to review this seeing as some people were talking crap about it for the sake of being n00bs, but I don't disrespect genuine opinions if they are positive or negative. Ok, enough waffle, onto the nitty-gritty.

Presentation: 10/10

Maybe I am being over generous? I don't think so, like most projects Hayo is behind, the presentation is something to be admired in the click community. If anyone could complain at it I would certainly be surprised. Its very easy to follow, the save slots are easy to understand and you can see what you have done and what you need to do very clearly. No misconseption at all.

Gameplay: 8/10

If you like puzzle games then you should like this game. I will agree with people that it is a bit easy but this is a quick game remember. I think it would have been rated slightly less if it wasn't for the odd boss at the end. The game contains simple idea; no-go areas, electricity/switches tomatoman enemies and water holes. Other features include collectable eggs and pushable blocks which are both interesting features. Simple yet very effective I must say, if the concept had been overcomplicated I would have expected a whole load of complaints about it. The technicality is just right and suits the style of the game.

Graphics: 10/10

There is no debating this one, the graphics are just top quality (what else would you expect from Mr Van Reek?) - Im sure everyone will agree with me that the graphics are well suited, original and of a very high standard.

Sounds and music: 7/10

Maybe I shouldn't really be able to comment on this seeing as I made the midi. It think I was going for a "mellow yet annoying" twist on them. I hope they didn't annoy you too much. The samples are adequate but there isn't really many to comment on. None of them are particularly distracting so on that note I can't put flaw to them.

Lastability: 5/10

This is the part that lets it down the most. It was originally intended to be a short game and that's exactly what it is. In my opinion (and others) it is a bit easy but I am sure this won't be the case in future editions. I did find myself falling into some bad situations like getting a block cornered and having to restart but I didn't find it particularly hard to work out what to do. I think the best way to make it harder would be to make bigger levels, that way its harder to see the big picture. Another point on "lastability" is the edition. The fact it's an easter edition does suggest it is a short game. There would be no point in having such a big game based around easter because it's only relevant for 1 or 2 months of the year.

Overall: 9/10

Overall I give this game 9 out of 10. I am sure some people will think I am being biased but I can justify my score. In my consideration I am considering the context, how well suited is it in its context? Well it is very well suited. It's about easter, a short / very commercial period of the year. This game highlights the commercial aspect very well and its game length also highlights the fact it's for a certain time of year. I also consider the amazing presentation and style that is often missed in even the best of click games. I fail to see any tell-tale signs that the game was made with click products other than the dll file it requires and the version info. I agree that this game is not to everyone's taste (OmGz itz not 3D YUH) but it is certainly to my taste and deserves an overall rating of 9/10

That's me done, hope you didn't fall asleep reading it. If you did, just try the game and make your own mind up.
