The name and idea of this game sounded very familiar when I first saw them, and sure enough a quick search for "DotWorld" revealed an earlier version, posted during the last month of 2002. However, it isn't the version of it that I played earlier, which involved a more snake-like dot and, if I remember right, 'darker' and more industrial graphics... still, never mind. Must just be a plot to confuse me.

Playing the game is similar to an old Windows game called WormWorld, or if you want an analogy that people will actually have heard of, a bit like Creepers. No? All right... Lemmings, then. You have to guide a dot to the exit. The usual state of the dot is that of blindly marching forwards in to oblivion, so you have to buy and lay down objects to change its course. There are other objects which change the size of the ball, return it to the start, and so on, but I never had any reason to use them.

So, again it's simple, and simple is good for puzzle games. Later on, keys are introduced along with extra money pickups that allow you to buy more blocks. This adds some variety in to the levels, which also change occasionally in terms of the graphics for the blocks and background.

Fifteen default levels are provided, which get more difficult as the game progresses, but it's not really enough. Fortunately there is also a level editor. I haven't tried making a level with it myself, but these are always welcome and increase the longevity of games no end in my experience.

The graphics are professionally done, and there are also some nice aesthetic effects such as a mouse trail. This can in theory be turned off in the Options screen, but it seemed to ignore me whenever I tried to change anything.

The difficulty's well balanced - usually you need to think and economise rather than just have lightning-fast mouse control. The game could have done with some more variety in the levels, though, and the music gets irritating after a while (the same one every level). Otherwise, this game is very polished.
