"Stands for everything good old fashioned 2D gamers will crave and long for?" This I had to see. Fortunately, I wasn't disappointed.

From the very start, the SNES-style influence is apparent. After thinking for a few moments about where I'd heard the music that plays on the main menu before, I finally realised - it's "Horangi Arigang" from Soul Blade (well, YOU try to spell it). No options or special modes are available in this demo, so it's straight on to "New Game", past the selection screen and to the game.

The game is then comprised of blasting anything that flies through the sky in front of you, accompanied by huge explosions and a Japanese rock MIDI. Brings me back, this does. <¦-)

Nostalgia aside, it's a well put together game in its own right. There are a reasonable number of enemies, though more variety wouldn't go amiss. Multiple weapons are used - two in the demo, being a bazooka and machine gun. As you might expect, the bazooka fires slowly with more power and the machine gun fires rapidly but does less damage, as spent bullet cases fly out behind you. Strangely enough they vanish sometimes as if GFactory has reached its object limit, but the game looks as if it was compiled using MMFusion, so I don't think that's the case. That's a minor detail, however.

An added feature is the dodge button, /. When this is pressed the character will attempt to dodge incoming bullets, and if successful a little "Tech dodge!" text will float upwards from him. As I said, the Japanese influence is obvious, and I'm not sure what advantage this gives you yet, but I'm sure all will be revealed.

After the level has taken place the screen goes a bit strange for a little while (a bug?) then you're taken down to a parallax-scrolling low flight. I was looking forward to another level here, but sadly after a very well done cut-scene the demo is cut short.

I can honestly say that I'm really looking forward to the full version of this (2004?!) as this demo really is very short, but it gives you a good feel for what the game's going to be like.
