Who here loves Super Mario?
Okay, put your hands down. This plucky-plumber fan game, Super Mario in Worlds Unknown; Return of Koopa has Mario written all over it.
Its a fan game, alright, but that doesn't mean its bad.

The concept is simple enough; guide your avatar, Super Mario, through several hazardous levels featuring all the classic baddies from games of old. Most of them are here, with the absence of the Hammer Brothers, THE authority on Mario stomping...
Remembering any old 'tactics' from the earlier Mario games will not help here. Merely brushing against a baddie will result in Mario's death, teleporting him back to the beginning of the level, unless Mario reached the 'half way' zone.
No more jumping on that Goomball anymore, boys!

For those with slow computers, it may be a bit choppy when scrolling, but for those with fast rigs, hang on tight! (although Mario does run a bit slow for my taste)

The level structure is vintage Mario enough, with a few clever exceptions. Interesting placement of the Pirahna (?) Plants make for interesting solutions! Scattered throughout the level are coins, which when 100 are collected, grant an extra life. Also, in a very creative touch, there are Mushrooms to collect in the levels, too. No longer do they give greater power, but they are used as currency in some stages of the game, granting extra coin, lives, or even the famed Warp Zone!
The music accompaning the game is Mario, of course, but the arrangement gives the player a feel of playing a classic Mario game, which brings back some memories.
All in all, the general feel of the game is Mario, yet it is all fresh and relatively exciting. With more games coming from Lord Spaceman, there seems to be a fan francise coming into our midsts, and if done correctly, promises to be a fun ride.

FINAL VERDICT
Highs; Its Mario; Fun, albeit slow level stucture in some spots.
Lows; Mario runs a little slow....
Bottom Line: Good fun. Try it out!
