CastleForge 0.5 is almost done. Alpha is over. It is now BETA!

I've been working in this update for around 2 months, now. It will surely be a little something. This devlog is just to tell you what is new in the update.


*New HUD (Heads Up Display) : instead of that boring bar in the bottom of the screen, I've made the decision to make a decent HUD. It looks REALLY smooth.

*Damage/money indicators: When you spend money, a number showing the amount of money spent will pop up. When you damage an enemy, the same will happen.

*Spells: I have made two spells so far: Heal and Fire. Heal will (obviously enough) heal the player, while fire will shoot a slow fireball in the direction tha player indicates.

*Help screen: in the title screen, click the "?" for help.

*New enemies: I have made 4 new enemies: the Bouncer, the Skeleton, the Bat and the Spiky. Bouncers will go bouncing around the screen, aiming for the jewel. They are quite dangerous, and will deal BIG damage to blocks. The skeleton just keeps chasing after the player. It has 7 HP, but it won't destroy blocks tho. The bat is a flying enemy that will chase after the player. and... the Spiky is a SLOW, red spiked ball that will move to the Jewel. It will destroy ANYTHING in it's way with one single blow, including the player. When it hits the jewel, it will take it's life.
I have removed golems from the game, because they were ugly, they were buggy and they made the game freeze.

*SONGS: I have FINALLY added songs to the game. Most of the songs have been made by me, but the most important one has been made by Alex Smith. Thanks, Alex!

*Config app: I made an application apart from CastleForge that may be used to configure the game. You may use it to stop sounds, music, or to change the screen size. I removed the "options" from the main menu.

*Traps: I have started implementing traps. For now, the only disponible trap is the spike. It will pop up from the ground whenever a monster nears it. It will not damage the player.

*Turret: the turret has been removed. It didn't work in the past versions, so I just removed it. I will, however, make a cannon to the 0.6 version.

*Graphical changes: the game won't lag anymore, unless you have a pretty bad computer. I am using HWA (direct 3D 9), and the game seems to be flowing WWWAY better. I've also added some neat particle ( it reads blood ) effects.

*Rain: I've added rain to the game. There is a 1/6 chance that it rains in the battle turn. Whenever it happens, dirt will turn into grass and will be worth $10 more. For placing it, however, the price will remain the same.

*Hardcore/Zen modes: I have added Hardcore/Zen modes. In hardcore mode, there is no jewel or the building turn - you have to survive to several monster waves without dying. You will have the same weapons as in the normal mode.
Zen mode is building only mode. all you have to do is to build. Blocks will have no price, and you will be able to save your constructions.

*Credits: proper credits. Include a small "thank you" list to the people who helped me in the development of CastleForge.

*My own font: Instead of those boring letters, I have included my own font in the game. It is "8-bit ish", as usual. It took me more than 2 hours to make that font alone, so I hope the work was worth it.

*THE GAME IS NO LONGER ALPHA. IT IS NOW BETA. *

There is still a lot to implement ( leaderboards, proper score system, LOCAL multiplayer, new spells, new monsters, new traps, BOSS FIGHTS ), but I surely have advanced a lot while making this game.

I want to thank EVERY single person who helped me to develop this game. Thanks, guys.

...also, the game MAY be disponible in more than one platform. Wait and see it.

I will make a video showing what's new as soon as I finish the update.

Hey Douglas! I really appreciate your will to help me, but thanks, I intend to keep doing this project alone. I'm really interested in doing a game with you someday, maybe.
