Project Overview
Wow, my first preview here...

As some of you may or may not know, Napalm Doom and I are working on a rather long-term WWII project known as "Soldier Of War".

The first part (or chapter, or whatever) of Soldier Of War is going to be the Invasion Of Normandy campaign. I set out to do a lot of research on the Normandy invasion, and decided to make a real-time strategy game based on the campaign - from D-Day (June 6, 1944) right to the end of the Normandy campaign.

So "Strategic Front" was born as my sort of "side-project", if you will.

Think Microsoft's "Close Combat" series, only faster paced and probably less men to command, and you're halfway there.

The player will take the role of a company commander of a US 1st Division unit, and will not control individual men, but small squads, a la Close Combat.

There will be your standard light infantry units, plus machine gunners and mortars that you can strategically place to provide backup for your light infantry.

The locations and objectives that will provide the missions to play through, will be as accurate as the actual campaign, hopefully right down to the names of the roads, villages, dates, etc.

One more thing: The 1st Division Infantry was one of the divisions that invaded Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944... yes, that's the beach and division featured in the infamous opening action scene of the movie "Saving Private Ryan"... I guess it would be cool to have that invasion as the opening battle, but I'm put off by the fact that EVERY GODDAMN WWII GAME OUT THERE now has an Omaha Beach map\level\mission\whatever... (Day Of Defeat Halflife mod, Medal Of Honour: Allied Assault, et al..) however, in the name of realism, you could very well see this. Now I'm rambling.

Anyway, graphics and coding have gotten well underway now, but I currently have no screenshots of any worth as of yet - it's just grass and men running about... although there will be something to see when I do another preview of this in the next couple of weeks.

Thankyou and goodnight, you've been a wonderful audience.
