I'm creating a new game developing tool based on the Lua language and MMF2's display engine.
Basically you'll be able to write games and do everything you can do with MMF2 but with actual programming.

bluemoon will include a IDE+compiler and uses simple commands to communicate with the runtime like moveobject(object,x,y) or createobject(filename), so it will also be a good way for beginners to start with programming.

I'll post more info soon, and might even release the first version today.

New 2D engine ?
Posted 24th Jul 09, by Johnny Look 4 Comments
I've been thinking a lot about converting bluemoon to SDL instead of using MMF2.

This would bring a huge lot of improvments, starting by the most common complain which is the the lack of speed of MMF2's engine.

Another addition worth mentioning would be the fact that it is cross platform. This means anyone could make games not only for windows but also for linux, mac os x and even more platforms. Also aparently the SDL developers are working on adding the iphone to the supported platforms list so that would be big plus for me at least.

Of course converting the whole engine to sdl would mean restarting almost everything from scratch, and the IDE being made with MMF2 would mean it's windows only and therefore I'd have to write a new IDE too.

But well overall I think the effort would be worth it.

Here's the first beta of bluemoon.

It might have a few bugs but it's stable to enough to start developing seriously with it.

It comes with a fully commented Breakout example, which is a pretty good starting point.

Feedback and bug reports are very very important, so don't be shy !

Just finishing the documentation and writing a few examples before I release the first beta.

Everybody's input will be very very important to track down eventual bugs and receive suggestions in order to improve bluemoon.
