Engine Completed Now to make more levels 01/12/10

All the basics and fiddly bits are done!
So far two full levels have been created.

Still working on the first level which is a village where you get basic info from NPCs.

Also got a friend who is an awesome Melbourne artist to help with my title screen.

Plus added a lot more monsters, bouncing spiders, dorky birds, little rats that spring out from trap doors and nerdy bees.

Check out some of the latest screenies

P.S new playable less buggy version will be ready soon

The palette you have chosen for your game is extremely contrasting, it makes your visuals harder to appreciate. By this I mean you use strong, bold colours in both the background and the foreground so neither has emphasis or focus. You also need to be wary when you have foreground objects outlined in black and do the same for background objects, it makes it hard to distinguish between the two. I do not mean to insult the style of your game, I just find that the current colour palette is a bit of an eyesore. There is nothing wrong with the art itself.

I have taken the liberty to try and demonstrate what it would look like if you evened out the palette a bit and removed all solid black colour from the background. If you want to check it out, the link is HERE:

Thanks heaps for the advice, I'll work on dimming some of the background colours.
Yeh I was kinda wondering if I should go with black outlines. Almost everything was black outlines when I started drawing but I dimmed some of them.

Is your comment more aimed at the more at the first screenshot or everything in general?

Plus I like the idea of putting a box round the life counter.

Thanks for the constructive feed back

haha, cheers. Maybe he could be a secret character...
They have a nasty death animation, when u kill them they fall over backwards and crack their head open.
