Project Overview
Preview Castlevania: Slots of the Night is a fruit machine simulator. Fruit machines are basically like slot machines but with nice little added bonus and mini-game features. Slots of the Night has two main games. The first is your standard slot reels. You lose virtual money each time you press roll, and win money each time you get three of a kind on the reels. The amount you win is dependent on what three characters you roll. At random intervals you are awarded Holds, which allow you to hold a reel to keep it from spinning on the next roll, and Nudges which allow you to "Nudge" a reel to its next result. Additionally certain tiles have hearts on them. Racking up three hearts will take you to the Bonus Round where the real money is. In the bonus round you will play a type of board game in which each of the squares represent a different mini-game. Even/Odd has you chose either Even or Odd and then rolls a die. If you chose right you are awarded a step up the prize ladder to the right. If you chose incorrectly you are taken back to the reels. High/Low rolls a single die and you are asked to chose if the next die will be higher or lower than the first. Win and continue up the prize ladder. Lose... Well, you get the picture. The question mark "?," will alternate between several different events. +1, which will instantly take you a step up the prize ladder, +2 which will give you two steps, Skill, which will cause the prize ladder to randomly fill and empty, allowing you to stop it at any time, and Lose which takes you back to the reels. Win/Lose quickly alternates back and forth between Win and Lose. Stop it on Win to continue with the obvious results or on Lose and go once again back to the reels. Finally, Dracula will alternate between the five characters along the left side of the screen. Stop on any character and each room will flash in turn. Stop on a room. If your character is found in the room you chose you are awarded one of Dracula's pieces (Heart, Claw, Bone, Ring, Eye). Collecting all five pieces will win the bonus round and award you the full prize. At any time you may chose to "Collect" your winnings and retire to the reels screen, or stay greedy and try to hit that bonus!

All the music, sounds and graphics in Castlevania: Slots of the Night are taken directly from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night with a few tweaks here and there.

Eventually when this is done, I'll be using the raw code to do several other themed fruit machines with my own graphics, music and sounds.

Odd problems but still kinda working on it..

A friend of mine pointed out that the music for some reason didn't come through on the demo though it is there in the code... Confused but I'll suss that out too. Last couple of days I've been working on part of the bonus features. Set up a screen with a bunch of bonus art and pix from CSOTN that slowly unlocks as you play the slots. Earn each of the character's bonus pictures by getting three of a kind with their reel pictures. There are also several other character pictures that you can earn in other ways. You'll just have to figure that out when the time comes. I'm trying to tighten up the code surrounding even/odd problems that I've been having and working on the code for the Dracula parts minigame from the bonus game. I'll keep you posted. In the meantime download the pseudo-demo from my last dev post to get a feel of what the finish game will have.

This time for sure! Oooh! I don't know my own strength.

OK. So with the help of OldManClayton I got the whole link thing sussed out. Feel kinda dumb here, but what's done is done. Thanks, OMC! I owe you.

Here's the link to the pseudo-demo.

Too busy to work on this, but...

Figured I'd upload a WIP demo. Note that there are still quite a few bugs and glitches and such, some of which I spoke of in an earlier log. It is however basically playable. The save/load features aren't implemented yet, so you'll just have to start fresh each time. Sparse directions are available above but you should be able to figure this out. With my wife and I currently working like crazy to keep our Tattoo/Piercing gallery going, and my publisher on my butt to complete my novel, I just don't have time to work on any of this stuff. Hopefully come winter I can dedicate more time.

Enjoy.

Disregard...

Ok... So perhaps I'm html retarded. Not sure how to set this link up correctly... It is still cut and pastable (Pastable's a word, right?).
Slight buggy problems but still well under way. And new features.

So, first the buggy... I'm having a hell of a time with the Even/Odd section of the bonus game. Seems that the first time Alucard lands on it it works fine... You pick odd and roll an odd, you win. Sames for the even. Second time and any further landings on Even/Odd produce an incorrect win/loss. For instance, you pick even and roll even, you lose. You pick even and roll odd you win. Still tracking this down. Slight problem with adding up hearts on the reels screen after using holds or nudges. I'm pretty sure I know why this is happening. It's just a question of getting it fixed.

Now, on to the new. I decided that it would behoove me to add a save function so that players could create and save/load a profile with their winnings and such as well as a log of how their play has gone. I'm also adding all kinds of unlockables such as multiple mouse cursors character art, new play styles and more. For instance, the first time you get three of a kind with any of the reel characters you might just unlock a cool full-sized bit of character art. Win three Even/Odds in a row and get a Medusa head mouse cursor.

Well, that's all for today. We're still moving right along.
