New Review System
News posted 23rd November, 2002 by ShadowCaster
Just a note to tell everyone that I've updated the review script so that it wont accept reviews that are less than 1500 characters long, plus I've added the fields "Graphics" and "Sound & Music" to the score list. These two fields wont show up on any reviews made before the new script was implemented, so dont worry, your games wont display zero for the new fields :)

Oh yeah, and if there are any errors, please PM me as soon as possible so I can get it fixed. Thanks.

1500! That's like 200 words! I can understand putting down a limit, but I think 800 is more fair. There are very few people writing reviews as it is.

1500 characters isnt huge, nor is 200 words. I came up with that number by finding a review which was pretty short, but well written, and then halving the number of characters that was in it. Seriously, if your writing less than 1500 characters then you should be putting it in the comment section... are you sure your not misreading that as the number of words? 0_o 1500 characters in MS Word is LESS THAN HALF A PAGE.

Yeah, 1500 characters is kinda short. I was just about to type that it may be a bit too short.

Just as long as there's a limit to how short it is, to prevent people from typing two-word reviews. My shortest reviews so far have been about half the character limit.

great fix. No more crap reviews! 200 words is very short. try 2 paragraphs, maybe 3.

Great!

Yeah, I think it's fair. On my AIM, I can't even fit my homepage URL and their limit is approx. 1500 characters.

You should thank Ashman for this, its a very good idea

Yeah, this is much better. I get sick of reading stupid reviews which span about a paragraph, and only include a few sentences. =/

Thanks for the comforting comment Chicken! ;) I will be expecting written thanks, and chocolates by the crate load from the lot of you. This will be much better now!

do the same thing for downloads, previews, and articles. that way there will be no more of those little 1 sentence write ups.

Hmm. I went into Pending Dloads today to accept some games. There was a huge list of them, and most of them only contained about two lines of text and no screenshots. How are these expected to get to the front page, or even to get any downloads?

Nope, its up to the user submitting the games not to use geoshites for image hosting. I posted something at fergs.co.uk a while back about decent hosting, you should take a look

You ripper Mike! 1500 characters...sheesh...that's nothing...1500 words isn't too hard for anyone who is a master of elaboration and expert wordsmith like myself...haha man that sounds stupid. But this is seriously just like a godsend in a way, people will have to seriously put effort and justify their actions in giving low marks...or in some cases high marks. I seriously think something like this should also be put into articles as well...because some articles are woeful, and more similar to a small sized post rather than a lenghty article...which articles tend to be if you read any newspapers, magazines or similar material on other mediums. I'm very happy with it Mike...the site is getting better and better by the weeks and days! Keep it up!
