New GOTW Winner: Halloween Candy (Do Over)
News posted 2nd November, 2010 by Rikus
Looky here, a Halloween game won today's GOTW!! Congrats to HorrendousGames for winning with Halloween Candy (Do Over)!

HorrendousGames submitted this redo of Halloween Candy with the hope that he could get some solid feedback. As a site full of developers, I think we can handle that. If you didn't play it, go download it and give your thoughts!

So super congrats again, and let's move on to the next one! ...By the way, I believe it is time to remove the Halloween theme... unless you guys like the dark and creepy!

How did this game get GOTW when no one played it? Lame.

Don't get me wrong, I'm flattered, but it would've been nice to get some decent feedback on it (which I have yet to get to this day).

Because lot's of people already played the original and this wasn't much different.

Check the feedback for the original sir.

I'd say it was quite different, I should know, I made it. Literally the only thing that isn't different we're the first two game modes, and even those featured heavily improved AI and gameplay.

In fact, if you read your own comment from before, none of those issues that you had do not exist in this version, except the lack of music in game.

I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, but did you actually play this version?

Yikes HorrendousGames, Could you a bit excited? You got the most votes and 31 people still downloaded this version, I could you know take it back and have the second best game get gotw if you prefer? Shees, never had anyone being upset by winning gotw before.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not upset, I'm just dumbfounded. I'm upset that I didn't really get any good feedback, but that's about it. I mean, if people really liked the game this much, how come no one here has told me? Really, I felt pretty accomplished after I pretty much redid the game from scratch in just four days, but that was short lived when I wasn't able to really share it with anyone other than a few of my friends. That and it was pretty much all I could think about at my interview at Insomniac.

But it's fine, I got over it, my hard work got me a GOTW, and having an "award winning" freeware game looks a lot better on a resume than just a guy that did a few freeware games.

By the way, I think a little more than half of those downloads were mine, it was easier to get the link from here than to sign into my hotmail account.

Well most of the time if people like something they will not comment on it. It is easier to complain then to say nice things. Maybe thats why. I dont know

That's a very good point. I just figured that when I post on the description that I was specifically looking for feedback (since it was for my demo reel), and even posted a help wanted thread for testers, that people in the community wouldn't object to taking a look at it, rather than make excuses on why they shouldn't. But that's my bad, this is definatly a community that enjoys developing games, not necessecarily a community that enjoys playing games, which isn't a bad thing at all.

If it makes you feel better, i hadn't played it and so didn't vote for it. However, i'm now about to download it and i'll leave some feedback for ya

Hey, that's really awesome. Thanks man!

Good verk! Conglats.

I actually don't recall playing the second version. I guess people don't tend to notice games they think they've played or seen. "Eh, I played the first version."

If Rikus is okay with it, I can edit the post and tell people you want them to download it and give feedback.

Thanks, and that would be cool with me, although I'm not Rikus.
