2009 Changes
News posted 23rd January, 2009 by Rikus
Some of you might have noticed, some of you might not. We changed the default skin today to SilverNova's Navy skin. Every new visitor or anyone who had the deafult skin turned on will now be looking at the most popular used skin on tdc! 2009 will be a big year for tdc, filled with changes, upgrades, some will cheer some will shudder since not everyone likes change. Also something that will happen this year is that we are planning on changing the name of the site, to make the site grow and expand this needs to be done, we cant sit still and let everything be the same anymore.

Anyhow hope you like the new default skin and if not then you can always change it back to the good old white default skin in your profile:)

Update Oh and just to clear up a couple of things, the main point for a name change is to welcome more new visitors and have a more clear vision, this is not about destroying our click focus but bring a new focus in, blend them together. That was the original idea anyway to Create-Games. The Daily Click does not say much in the spirit of game creation and its time to let it go of course due to the wonderful world of skins there will always be daily click logo skins to choose from so you can name it whatever you want. This change will happen slowly over the year, with mitch being replaced with a "TDC graphical logo" on the left and the create games name in the middle. Respect for the old and in to the new. Well thats the idea anyway we are always open for ideas and suggestions and like i said you are never stuck with something you can always skin it back like it was 2008:) The focus of the site will remain, daily updates of game creation, reviews, downloads and you guys are going to love the new upcoming resource section. So much stuff awaits, tickles me fancy:)

Cha-cha-chan-ge the name???

Why...?

(unless it reflects your url, i'll be up for that)

The only thing I don't like about this theme is that it uses the same background for the Daily Spotlight as it does the side bars, which causes a real bad eyesore image repeat. If you could fix that, I wouldn't have any problem with the skin.

I'll still be using the Default Default skin.

If you're gonna be changing the name (which is a shame, as that probably wont make much difference- its the content of a sight that makes it, not the name) you need to let the people designing new skins know what it is A couple of people have already posted initial ideas for new TDC skins.

I like your vision Rikus.

oh just found adam's skin, that one is quite refreshing.

I like the TDC name

I think change is a good thing. I think an important thing to do would be to try to advertise the website more and attract more people to it.

How about Ralchibald? I've always liked that name.

i actually think create games is probably the easiest and best name especially since more and more content is being made and submitted with non click products. but then again i dont think anyone wants it to stray from click products.

Probably could change to "Create Games" lol, since it is the name of the url.

"Create Games" would be better too

It'd be a shame to see TDC diluted into a generalised bedroom coder game site. I like the name, too. Would all the klik-centric stuff be submerged? Also, a reskin and name change isn't going to increase the amount of klik users actually online - even clickteam have expressed bafflement as to why most of their customers don't get involved with their forums and online community.

Regardless, the other developers using their respective tools have all got their main sites to go to already (like kilkers have TDC), I don't think changing the focus of the site's going to make them change pace and come here. Everything from the forums to the articles to the games revolves around MMF and clickteam, so it'd be a big change. I think you risk alienating the current audience and failing to attract the new one. You've already got a good, modest site here which fills a gap no other one does. It'd be a shame to spoil that.

Ambition...

I'm happy you want to change the site. I think "Create Games" reflects what this site is about more than "The Daily Click".

While you are at it, please remove Mitch as TDC's mascot.

@Robert Rule
Klik games will always be the focus of TDC. I think we by inviting other game makers can make them discover klik games and klik products. The Game Maker Community is very known in indie circles. I think Rikus' ambitions will make the klik community more known and possibly attract more people.

Uh, oh great!, i was using that one anyway

Posted by OMC 23rd January, 2009

Oh poop. :| I don't want the name to change, and I don't want the focus to shift from click-only. Why is everyone so concerned with getting so many more people? A bigger userbase would be ok, but let's not change everything to try to get it. Let TDC be TDC, it's great as it is. Changing things doesn't bring people. Inviting people brings people.

I use this skin anyways!

To make this site grow we need more, big, interesting projects. And less emphasis on yet more platform engines.

Actually split up the download page into demos, tech demos and full games. There isn't enough of a divide at the moment.

I hope everything works out, Rikus, i applaude your balls in trying something new and daring for the good of the site. Long live TDC/Create-Games!

Posted by Xhunterko 23rd January, 2009

Oooh, I know.

How bout, clik-akademy, cafelite, klikunion or...
(All of which are dead I think.)

Okay, seriously though. Cafe' Click, Create-Games Now, Create-click-Games, heh, okay, okay. Shutting up now.
