DC Mini Comp #1 - Screensavers
News posted 9th May, 2004 by Knudde (Shab)
Well, after tallying up all the points and getting everything together here are your winners for this month.

Buster(HES) picks up 25 DC Points and first place for his Crazy Man Screensaver.
Teapot comes close behind in second place and get the sum of 15 DC Points for his screensaver AI Snake.
Kramy cruises in at third and picks up 10 DC Points for his highly configurable Geo-saver.
Finally, we have Nicholas's screensaver Tribe Wars in as an honorable mention.

Note: I will be taking suggestions for a theme for the next Mini Comp that will start either next Sunday or the Sunday after. If you have a suggestion, please post them here.

I'd also like to thank Snerlin of Neonair for helping co-judge the comp and putting up with my personal delays.

Who can go longest without starting a new competition competition Or someone makes a game with a level editor, best level wins? etc.

Posted by Flava 9th May, 2004

My comp idea: Best Mini Application? :P

Posted by Shen 9th May, 2004

failing that, Best Shen Competition.

Posted by ChrisB 9th May, 2004

best pineapple-related game

Posted by citizen[Ac] 9th May, 2004

what exactly can you do with dc points?

Posted by Hernan 9th May, 2004

DC points are very usefull. There used for absolutely nothing. cool isn't it?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 9th May, 2004

Administrative Message: DC Points are the most valuable thing known to mankind.

Posted by ChrisB 9th May, 2004

DC points encourage you to act like a jerk.

Posted by Strife 9th May, 2004

Actually, DC points determine your overall rating, which appears under your avator at the top-right corner of the page. A theme for the next DC competition? I would suggest a "maze" theme (i.e. the levels have to be maze-like). We haven't had a DC comp like that for a while, and it would be fun to see all the cool and intriguing mazes, dungeons, and labrynths that the competitors design. :)

How about music competition?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 9th May, 2004

I was thinking about doing one where all entries need to be developed in Klik N Play.

Posted by Cazra 9th May, 2004

Is KNP free?

Posted by Knudde (Shab) 9th May, 2004

yep

Posted by Dr. James MD 9th May, 2004

"best pineapple-related game"... Mr.Pineapple!

Posted by Cazra 9th May, 2004

yay! Pineapples are awesome. What a coinsidence...I just recently made up a pineapple related character for an RPG I'm designing. I'm not giving away the what the guy is though. :P

Posted by Tigerworks 9th May, 2004

Best Game in Under 30 events?

Posted by Philipe (Phil-Con Games) 9th May, 2004

PINEAPPLES FOREVER!!! BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! And we could always do the KnP thing if that doesn't work. Or better yet (or at least better in my opinion), how about the best game made using only graphics that came with MMF/TGF?

Posted by AsparagusTrevor 9th May, 2004

Howabout the next DC competition is the best gore in a MMF game? Whoever can make something with the best blood effects wins. Not wanting to bias the comp towards anyone in particular or anything, I think it would be a good comp.

Posted by ChrisB 9th May, 2004

I like the sound of that. Can you say 1fps dynamically lit particles?

Posted by AsparagusTrevor 9th May, 2004

PS, the file size limit should be around 56mb.

Posted by AsparagusTrevor 9th May, 2004

There you have it. Chris is with me, in a cynical, sarastic kinda way. But a 'way' none the less.

Posted by Mitch M 9th May, 2004

Best Circy-Style game! Do everything you can to make a platformer like it's circys XD

Posted by Cazra 9th May, 2004

How about a NES style game involving pineapples?

Posted by Muggus 9th May, 2004

Well done Craig...your screensaver rocked man! Anyway...I reckon we should have a letter themed comp...like you choose a letter from the alphabet to have your game to be based on...like M for instance. So your game would have to start with M, like Muggus's Mad Misadventure...and maybe the main character could be a marmet or a mole or something like that and you have to defeat the evil Monkey Man with your machine gun by finding your way through mazes and fining all one million magic marbles of mayhem. Ouch what a tongue twister!

Posted by Muz 10th May, 2004

Heheh... best KNP game. That would be cool, especially since modern klik styles (like coordinates and saving) don't work too well with it XD. I still like my old 'Most inspirational desktop wallpaper' idea. You know, something that just inspires you to continue clicking or whatever it is you do on your computer that's important.

Posted by Kramy 10th May, 2004

Oooh, I won, I won! :) Level editor! Level editor! :) I also like Tigerwork's 30 event game idea.

Posted by Crystal Clear (H.E.S) 10th May, 2004

LOL, Buster your crazy man screensaver kicks ass, nice work!

Posted by Ashman 10th May, 2004

Congratulations Buster/Craig and to the two other people that took time out of their busy complain-o-vision schedueles to congratulate him. To the rest who didn't... you... well... suck.

Posted by Teapot 10th May, 2004

Congrats Buster. As for my second place, i'd like to thank Batman. Tigger's 30 event idea is cool. But how about making it one-condition events only?

Posted by Mutantleg 10th May, 2004

Congrats Buster! ( you may eat tonight :P )

Posted by ChrisB 10th May, 2004

No, no, one-condition events would be terrible. And I think an event limit would be quite restrictive and would limit the gameplay somewhat. But I don't mind, since I can write an extension to do all of the calculations ;) How about a Spoof Game competition - pick an old classic but twist it. For example, you could have Mortal Wombat and make a beat-'em-up with cute little Aussie animals. btw. congrats, but I already said that because I knew you were going to win. (clairvoyant)

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 10th May, 2004

Great job, guys! My screensaver sucked wind! :P Congradulations!

Posted by Saven (CrobaSoft) 10th May, 2004

What, no "stupid idea = stupid screen saver" award for me? :) new comp... How about a physics comp? 30 minute game comp sounds good too.

Posted by vortex2 10th May, 2004

hmm how about a contest to see who can create the best commander keen like game :P Commander keen rules! power to the Dope Fish! :D (And go bounder ^_^) . err anyway :P.

Posted by Dr. James MD 11th May, 2004

Dope Fish Rules

Posted by Tigerworks 11th May, 2004

30 events and NO extensions then.

Posted by Cazra 11th May, 2004

Now how is Shab gonna know how many events we used in our games? He'd need the source code to check this. hmm...I think I answered my own question...

Posted by Strife 12th May, 2004

The 30 event idea sounds good, but how on earth would Shab be able to know how many events we use?? I'm still rooting for the maze theme. But, I have another suggestion: How about a shoot 'em up theme, where each game must have at least 30 weapons? :D

Posted by Strife 12th May, 2004

Oh wait... Snerlin answered my question... *slaps forehead* How come there isn't a Delete button on this page?

Posted by Cazra 14th May, 2004

The KNP installer doesn't work. I've tried dowloading it twice and all it did was do nothing and take up half of my RAM. :P Please anything besides KNP!

Posted by DarrenMcLeod 14th May, 2004

30 events is a cool idea. I like your style.

Posted by vortex2 14th May, 2004

30 event sounds better then knp :P. Knp: no Arrays no Control over current fram, its just start/stop limited number of animations no flags 3 alterable values no scrolling no groups, no comments no multiplayer, no score object, no extentions of any kind, overly simplistic interface, ect :P. click has come a long way since then :).
