Hey everyone,

New-ish clicker here. I discovered this forum after searching for Clickteam Fusion-made games on Google. Glad I did, everyone here seems really nice, based on reading a few of the threads before signing up.

A bit about me: I predominantly used Construct (mainly Classic) in the past but switched to Fusion recently, since the exporters are very good. I did some tutorials back in late 2016, but pretty much forgot what I learned since I went back to Classic a short while later. I finally decided to ditch CC back in August, and I started using CF2.5 and TGF2 full-time shortly after.

By the way, I made an alpha/demo of a new game of mine recently using CF2.5. If you want to try it out, it's on my itch.io account:
https://ebriosus.itch.io/estelle

Sorry, I don't know how to properly post a link on the forums. I'd love to hear what you guys think of the game, though!

Anyways, it's nice to be here!

Thanks for trying it out! I'll just add a bit more to it before uploading the alpha.

It's cool that you started with Construct given it was made by a former member here who was inspired by Fusion.

The fanboy wars over that were fun back in the day.

Yeah, I started using CC back around three years ago since I didn't know much about game development and different engines then. It's a pretty decent engine, but I got fed up with it since it's really unstable, and exporting is limited to .exe files. It's only good for making small or game jam games; anything bigger, it'll crash every 5 minutes. I bought C2 last summer, but I was already getting used to CF2.5.

I never realized a creator of Construct frequented The Daily Click. If only I had know about this website a few years back, I would've loved witnessing the fanboy wars that you described!

I haven't heard about Construct in years. Didn't know anything ever came of it.
I'm pretty sure it was supposed to fix many of the design issues with MMF2.

Construct had some strides over the last decade; ever since they released Construct 2 back in late 2011-early 2012, they seemed to have been trying to target the mobile market more and more. They recently released Construct 3, which is subscription based, but I don't like these types of business models, since they get really expensive over time.

I've read the same about it trying to fix Fusion's problems and limitations. At this point, Construct is more or less on par with Fusion. A couple of very useful features that Construct has over Fusion is the ability to create independent event pages that you can 'include' into other event pages, and the ability to have nested/sub-events, where in Fusion, you have to duplicate a lot of events; but CF2.5 has more exporters with smaller and faster builds, and it's often on sale.

I'm sort of surprised that Clickteam didn't borrow the idea of sub-events from Construct - even the very first version from late 2007 had the feature. When they were developing CF2.5, this should have been something that needed to be included.

I doubt anyone from Clickteam have used Construct enough to notice that feature. I certainly wasn't aware of it.

Fusion 3 is in development right now though so maybe you could make some suggestions on the clickteam forums.

I wish I had been more familiar with Klik stuff and game dev in general back then. Really missed out, honestly. Will def submit a game here once I have something more substantial!

You're right, I'm being a little too harsh on them. Thankfully, a bunch of people mentioned these features in the Clickteam message board; in fact, I just found out that they've been planning to add sub events way back during the MMF2 days. Here's a link to a Clickteam blogpost:

http://www.clickteam.com/clickteam-blog?p=sub-or-child-events

Edit: By the way, how do I add a proper hyperlink? The <a> tag doesn't seem to work.
Edit 2: Oh, nevermind. I just have to post the link. But how come the link didn't work in my OP? Is it because it's https instead of http?

Yesh this forum software was built a decade or so ago and then features just kinda added over the years as people requested them.

The RegEx (assuming that's what was used) doesn't auto detect urls with https like you said. Only http.

Ah, I see. Sorry for my ignorance on forum technology.

It seems like the website has been updated to https though. It even updated the RegEx to recognize https links!
