Hey guys, I was hoping some of you talented pixel peeps could give me a few pointers on how to improve my map. Here are two versions, first with grass detail:

Now without the grass detail:

So I'm pretty sure my grass detail looks completely stupid, but I can't figure out anything better. Also, I'm not sure what I was doing with the brick tiles on the floor, only just realised I left that in. Any suggestions?

Edit: Do feel free to suggest improvements to all aspects of this by the way, not just the grass.

Instead of having no grass detail try having grass detail in small, sporadic patches. A Link to the Past does this.

Also, try adding some more contrast and look up color ramps. For grass you want to use shades between Yellow and Blue. The ramp would be made up of Yellow|Green|Blue

As you can see, smaller details break up the monotony, such as rocks, signs, building shadows (subtle!)etc. Not to mention the grass is outlined with a thicker outline, except the contrast between the outline and the grass is more subtle than the contrast in your image.
