My latest game going on the Xbox, "That Really Hot Chick" has been finished for about 2 months, and due to some issues with bugs, I haven't been able to release it yet. During this time with all the testing by various parties, it has become very apparent that my game is extremely difficult for many people, and does not offer much incentive for the user to continue. I have narrowed down my options to potentially resolve this issue to 3 simple to implement ideas based around the level progression, I would love to hear some input on them.

First thing to consider is that the game contains 5 levels, the first 4 levels contain a single egg in each, if you collect the egg in the level and finish it, you'll get that egg, and when you collect all 4, the 5th level is unlocked, this does not change in any of the 3 fixes.

Choice A is to revert it back to where it's been the entire time, which is each level is unlocked by beating the level before it. This would pretty much be me saying "quit complaining".

Choice B is what it has currently been switch too recently, the 1st 3 levels start already unlocked and the player unlocks the 4th level by beating any of the 1st 3 levels. I personally feel that this only provides one instance of a reward before having to beat each level in its entirety, and essentially make any level beaten without collecting an egg a waste of time.

Choice C is to unlock the 2nd level when the player progresses halfway through the 1st level, the 3rd level when the player progresses halfway through the 2nd level and the 4th when the 1st 3 levels have been beaten entirely. I feel this one gives the player a little bit of reward for getting pretty far in the level instead of just "try again, you get nothing", and also allows the story to progress as it was intended.

I'd like to hear what you guys might think of any of these ideas, I know it's tough to visualize without having played the game (with the exception of Chris Street, it'd be great to hear what you have to say on this)

If anyone else has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them (keep in mind the suggestion of checkpoints has been suggested countless times, and is not possible to do in this game, so please don't suggest it).

I like the idea of unlocking the first three levels at the outset, and unlocking level 4 once one of those three levels is beaten (option B). It lets people who can't handle the difficulty play something and feel like they've received their money's worth (never mind the game costs a dollar...but gamers today need some coddling, if I may be so bold).

I personally drop games like a hot rock once I reach the point of "forget it man, this game is just too hard for me," and easily forget them. But having some options to play to see if there's any chance at all I might progress will let me enjoy the game and still consider your games in the future, should I see the HG logo on a future release.

Option B is, in a way, like the horizontal choice you're permitted in the Megaman games (and Shatterhand, although I digress). It lets the player forge their own path, so to speak, and that's a welcome phenomenon in our current generation of linear games - which also increases replayability on your end.
