I've never seen Ghost Town and I am not religious. I'm just philosophically endowed and believe in "God" and a higher purpose which perhaps may never be fully understood by mankind. I do not believe in religions however, as they are a huge part of what is wrong with the world. This may sound hypocritical, but if you truly understand what I mean, then you will know that it is not at all so.
Arguments over details of that which can never be fully known until you are dead leads to foul attitudes towards eachother and even war.

@alastair john jack: That's not healthy. Michaels' music was great as was his dance, but to say that there is nothing else worth living for is just wrong. Yes there will never be another 'Michael Jackson' and he can never be replaced, but there have been many others who have died and there will be many more who will die that also can never be replaced, both celebrity and non-celebrity. I'm going to miss him and his style and I truly wish that he would have made some more songs before leaving this world, but he is gone and life goes on. He was a hero in the hearts of many, but he was just as human as anyone else is. (that's if you're serious)

@alastair john jack: You should be ashamed of yourself. (that's if you meant it in a sarcastic/mocking manner)

And radio DJ's that wouldnt touch his work for similar reasons but now play it all day and all night..

I think a lot of people who hated him just did so to be cool. I know a LOT of people who would make fun of Wacko Jacko all the time, but have his albums all the same. And these people are the same ones who actually cry and say that he was their childhood. I think all this is TV and radio coverage is the guilt factor more than anything.

I wonder if there'll be many Jacko-tribute people sprouting up over the next 30 years, like Elvis? I doubt it'll be anywhere near as many, but it'll be interesting to see.

I don't particularly have anything against Michael Jackson, but I guess I just hate the media/celebrity hype more than anything. This is going a bit off topic, but I absolutely loath tv shows or magazines that get unnecessarily over-involved in all the "goss" and tales of today's celebrities. Now don't get me wrong, Michael Jackson dying is a pretty big story and reporters, whether they care about it or not, are going to milk it dry. In my opinion however, there is a limit, which gets me back to the tabloid goss; if I like a celebrity because of their music or acting or whatever they supply to me, then that's what I like about them. What they do in their spare time is of absolutely no concern to me, and I can't see any good reasons as to why it should be.

Sure, I'm sad that Michael Jackson's dead, but no more than I would be if my Uncle's Step-Cousin or the stranger across the street had died. To be honest, I'm actually sick of hearing about it now. As you might of guessed, I do enjoy his music but I'm not that much of a serious fan. It's people like me though that are saying "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." because they suddenly think MJ was the best thing since sliced bread, but to me personally, I knew exactly what I had, and I still do. I had a talented dancer/choreographer who wrote some good songs, made some (in my opinion) bad choices, and now sleeps happily. When I first heard the news, I was surprised, I thought about it for a bit and realised I never really looked into Michael Jackson that much; I didn't really take the time to appreciate his music and it made me feel like I'd lost some kind of opportunity. But I thought about it some more and realised that it shouldn't really be a big deal to me at all, so I left it at that and went on with my day.

I really don't understand why ordinary people get so involved in situations like this, so I'm asking this question completely non-rhetorically: Why should I care if Michael Jackson Died?

I can think of a few choice answers like: "Because he was an awesome talented ultra-famous musician and now he's gone forever"

and: "Because he changed pop culture forever, he is an icon, now up there with Elvis and the like"

But here's my contradiction; these answers don't generally mean that I have to care at all, they are merely opinions.

Which brings me to my next discussion, (post is getting a bit long, I know), but one thing that really sticks with me is this: People are only as famous as other people want them to be. No one chooses to be famous, it is in complete control of everyone EXCEPT you whether you are famous or not. Anyone can be talented at anything, and whether or not you choose to be SIGNIFICANTLY interested someone else's talent, it is your decision. Imagine if all of a sudden, everyone in the world lost all interest in... Justin Timberlake for example. His records stop selling, people recognise him less and less, and he is generally ignored by anyone he is not in immediate contact with. He has just become a "nobody", and it was the combined decisions of the population of the world that caused this to happen. However, they don't dislike him, and at the same time they don't like him; they have no opinion one way or the other. Now take it back to today's perspective. There are celebrities out there, who aren't particularly that talented, and yet other people decide that they are famous or loved by a wide population. Then there are the celebrities who are generally talented, and I think the problem with this is that some fans of those celebrities are particularly over-reactive about these people; I'm sure there are some people out there now who would be more upset about Michael Jackon's death than that of their own family member's. And lastly, there are the 'celebrities' that may or may not be talented, but aren't nearly as famous. When does a person reach a certain level of fame anyway? Is there a specific point where, when someone is noticed by one more member of the general public, that they become famous? Some people think of "famous" and "infamous" to be opposites, but in fact they almost mean the same thing. If fame is the amount of recognition (good or bad) that you recieve from a significant number of people, then what really makes you any different to them?

Anyway, that's enough for now. I've been wanting to express some of this stuff a bit recently, so thanks to James for starting this post I guess. I don't really care if you agree or disagree with any of this, but thanks for reading my rant and I hope you learned something from it!

Though, I'd like to hear your comments!

You can always turn off the TV if you don't like it. Seriously, that's what I do. Once ratings start dropping they'll learn that people are getting sick of it. It's all lazy journalism anyway, first all that hype about swine flu, then the MJ thing. So lazy.

Lol, the irony is that Michael Jackson keeps getting the headline news when he doesn't want to.

Not round where i've been in my life-time there hasn't. What i was getting at is will they suddenly appear all over the place, like Elvis ones do? In Tenbury Wells, where i live, there is a poster advertising Elvis tribute acts, yet the population of this town is approx 5,000 - not bad for a small town. Yet there's never been Jacko tributes anywhere rounds here, or in Hereford where i grew up.

I turn it all off now coz i'm getting bored with hearing about it. The latest tabloid-trash going around is about his autopsy; about him being nearly bald, wearing a wig, being like 8 stone, scars over his face from the operations etc etc. Now all the 'shock' has passed, i remember why i didn't have much time for Jacko and it makes me wonder why i care - all the sleeping with kids and stuff. Hmmm....
