HELLO! JUST A QUICK ONE, SINCE I SEEM TO BE GETTING QUITE A FEW DOWNLOADS!

1 - THE GAME NEEDS THE SILKSCREEN FONT, I HAVEN'T WORKED OUT HOW TO EMBED IT YET. YOU CAN GET IT HERE:
http://img.dafont.com/dl/?f=silkscreen
YOU CAN RUN IT WITHOUT, BUT SOME TEXT MAY LOOK FUNNY...

2 - EVERYTHING IS STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING MADE, SORRY IF TEXT IS MISSING OR INTERFACE IS HORRIBLE!

THANKS FOR DOWNLOADING THOUGH, LOVE TO HEAR YOUR FEEDBACK!

Ur Not a Hero is a cover based action shooter

You hire a mercenary from a rag tag group of player characters with different skills and abilities and then attempt to complete clandestine missions from hostage rescues to bank heists.

Gain awards for completing levels in certain styles to unlock powerups and abilities.

Rating system on the levels for replayability!

The game is in early alpha, so the included levels with the demo are not final.

The game lacks a tutorial at the moment so:

Controls:
Left and Right Arrows to move.

Up and Down to use stairs.

Z - Slide
Z(hold) - take cover

X - shoot (you can't move and shoot)
while in cover keep Z held and press X to pop out and shoot

C - Specials. Some characters have special moves activated through pressing C.

SpaceBar - use grenades/mines once you've unlocked them.

Played it for hours, again and again. It's so motivating to achieve a better score for each level.

Add a ninja pls

@Fil47 - thanks dude!

@Katoz - Cheers mate, it's AWESOME that you played it for a while, makes me feel great! Funny you mention the ninja, he's actually all done and animated, I just couldn't work out all his bugs before the demo went up. There are a bunch of other playables actually, I just didn't get them in there!

It's really inspiring to get nice feedback and as soon as I've got some more time (working on a published title at the moment), I'll be getting back onto this!

Thanks again, I really appreciate all the feedback!

Almost Bananza-Brothers esque from the looks of it. I'll give it a try this afternoon.

Great potential. Feels fresh and is pretty damn entertaining.

Somehow I didn't really feel that the theme connected with what I was doing. I couldn't really see why I was hiring these guys rather than being them, but that's ok I guess. Also I didn't really grasp the connections between the many numbers. What was it that I needed to progress to the next mission? How much of whatever that is did i need? The game felt a little bit broken in that it was hard to find to connection between things, but that didn't stop me from enjoying a pretty nice action game. The red melee-guy felt a bit underpowered, would have been nice to be able to control his dash more than the other guys.

Code-wise there is no handling of the game not accessing it's asset files. Not accessing the a map means insta-death in mid-air for the player. Also, none of the text assets are encrypted and bin is for binaries, not assets.

I felt that a little more camera and gfx could do wonders for this game, worth to check out.

Good job so far!

Zezard,

thanks for the feedback dude, I'm glad you had fun! TBH, you're right, most of the interfaces are totally broken. There was prviously alot more data, and the "hiring" part was an element of the old version that I simply didn't remove. Similarly, the RATING is based on number of deaths, while score is just on kills/saves/achievments. So it needs to be clearer how that is calculated, but as I said, those end screens are all placemarker.
With the red Melee guy, did you try using C to do his punch attack or just Z and X?

I take on board what you're saying for the map-load fail, but at the moment there are only 9 maps, so it's totally expected that you'll fall off the world. THat'll get fixed later.

Yeah I named Bin when it shouldn't be, but mainly because I wanted people to think it would be binaries and leave it alone. Like I said, it's just-about alpha, files are all unencrypted so it's easy to make tweaks and changes. Obvs in the final version you won't be able to play around with them, but at this stage I didn't really mind if people wanted to play around with the INIs and break the game!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to play AND come back and post feedback. Pretty much everything you've suggested is spot on and I'll be implementing it all at some point!

Cheers

J
