Puyo Puyo VS an online Puyo Puyo clone that uses Lacewing. It's still in beta though. And I've just started posting about this outside the Puyo Puyo community, so it's a little empty in the lobby atm.

It's possible you will see some Japanese and Korean players pop up (if you come on at the right times). Or regulars from the Puyo Puyo community. As I assume you guys are not regular Puyo Puyo players, you can assume you will lose a 100% against them if you try to play against them

What it's about
Puyo Puyo VS is the game that takes Puyo Puyo seriously. It's purely multiplayer online, no single player. No doubt you've heard about the game Puyo Pop Fever by Sega (ugh). This game however, does not have Fever mode. It's purely classic Puyo Puyo. (Fever mode is for wimps if you don't know how to make chains :/)

How to play it
Puyos fall down like Tetris blocks. You connect 4 of the same color to pop them. Since they all fall down due to gravity, it's possible to create chain reactions. The bigger the chains, the more nuisance (colorless) Puyo you send to your opponent. This way you can obstruct your opponents chains. Build chains and attack your opponent until one of you fills up the screen and loses.
Here is a gameplay video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1UoiDolDjo
This user has been uploading a couple of videos lately: http://www.youtube.com/user/VinnyR0X

How to connect
Just fill in a name (no password, there is no login system yet) and click connect. Click on a username to challenge that person.
You can also enter a match room, and wait for a 2nd challenger to appear.

Features
-Customizable Puyo sprites, backgrounds and sounds (you have to download those seperately)
-Accurate Puyo Puyo mechanics and lag control
-Replay saving and viewing
-Ability to join as spectator and watch matches
-It runs on any public server
-Automatic updates
-And other stuff I can't think up of at the moment

The polish of this game is simply astounding! Everything just works great and looks fantastic. Leaving this one on my desktop so I'll remember to practice.

This looks just like Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine! (The Sega game)

Scary; near synchronous post of very similar material :S

Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine (and Kirby's Avalanche for the SNES) were the western makeovers of Puyo Puyo 1.

Indeed. I'm a bit annoyed how the Puyo Puyo theme was changed to more famous ones such as the Sonic world and Kirby, just to get people buy the game.

I still play Puyo Puyo on SNES a lot, but I can't say that i'd be very good at this.

Meh, I forgot to check the rate box. I've already played this, and it's one of the most polished MMF 2 games ever. The effects may be a bit streamline, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I miss purple Puyos!

It deserves a good rating.

The work put into this is well observed.

BUT, I don't particularly care for this game.
I'll play it some more later.

i saw you in the lobby monk and was gonna challenge you but you left.

Please tell me you dislike tetris as well.

I love tetris.

I saw you in lobby too, but it wouldn't let me challenge you, I clicked and clicked the button and nothing happened.

I tired chatting and nothing happened.

So I clicked spectate and that worked.

Yeah, that's a bug. It happens sometimes and I have no idea why
The only thing you can do when that happens, is to restart.

I'm still not very good at it. I'm thinking about picking up a PSP version for the road. It's a nice time-killer!

This is really cool!, it's identical to the newer puyo games. The people on there are really good though, haha!

I'm liking this, except the fact that the Puyo Puyo I remember did not show 2 combinations ahead of the current one.
