Thin Ice

Thin Ice is a very basic arcade game for Windows. The engine is simple and almost bugless, containing less than 30 events per level.

In this somewhat amusing game, you must guide Petey Penguin across the platform of ice and collect enough diamonds to open the Exit.

However, the floor is not very strong. When you move Petey repeatedly over a square, it will crack until eventually it leaves a gap in the floor.

You must also watch out for the angry Eskimo dude who will constantly chase after you. He's wearing special shoes, so he can walk over pits without a problem.

How long can Petey Penguin last before his Life meter runs out? Play the game and find out...

Please read the included Text document for more info on the game.

(by the way, I KNOW that Freewebs sucks, but since the game is only about 400kb anyway, it shouldn't take very long to download. )

I like this, reminds me of the Virus game.

Posted by Strife 29th May, 2004

Hah! :D The Virus game is what inspired me to make Thin Ice! Also, I thought about adding an online scoreboard, but I decided not to. This was a short project anyway. My high score is 425. Can you beat it? ;)

Woah, Virus? I used to have that! :D Downloading...

Posted by Retired Kliker Lazarus 29th May, 2004

This is really fun! Very true to Virus...:) Expect a review soon! :D ANGER THE ESKIMO! LIVE LONG!

Posted by Strife 29th May, 2004

3 thumbs down...? Can someone tell me why? (I know the game is simplistic, but there has to be a deeper meaning to the downed thumbs... ;) )

I'm a fan of your game Star Angel, which is enough to guarantee a download from me. Looks good.

Fun game. :) The 3 thumbs are probably from those guys that vote down to everything that makes the front page. :P

anger the eskimo?! you dont want to anger me cause i am an eskimo livin in alaska.

Posted by Jonny 30th May, 2004

Nice game. you should be able to kill the eskimos and steal his shoes. Penguins may look harmless but one bit off my hand:)

Man I played for ages and I still only got 175

Posted by Strife 30th May, 2004

175 isn't a bad score. Not bad at all. An average player only scores about 90-120 points. Congrats. :D Keep in mind that i'm an expert at this game (because I created it :p ), and it took me 40+ minutes to get my high score of 425. I was really bored that day. :p

Posted by Strife 30th May, 2004

By the way, Rick (AntiMatter), thanks for the comment. I didn't think Star Angel had any fans. :p I'm even thinking about making a Star Angel 2, with gameplay that would be heir apparent to Super Ken Senshi. But I have a feeling that I should finish Astro Dude first...

No, Zimtower. :) I just think shock-vaule rocks. XD But it wasn't shocking... :( So far I've gotten a score of 145. :)

LMAO, just to tell you i really do live in AK.

I like it. My only problem with it is that in order to avoid the eskimo you have to run too fast, and then you have to retrace too many steps to get back to a diamonds that popped up. But, that's just a minor thing. You ought to be able to drop the eskimo in a pit!

Posted by Strife 1st June, 2004

For that, Eric, there's a solution: Try not to move too erratically. Move Petey in a neat pattern around the entire arena. Moving in a circle around the outer rim of the playfield works best. Like I said, this was a minor project. ;) However, if it gets a lot of downloads, I may consider making a sequel with deeper gameplay.

It makes my wrist hurt, contantly pressing the direction keys fast enough to escape the eskimo! It's a brilliant game, in my opinion, but it needs an online scoreboard. Is there an infinite number of levels?

Posted by Strife 2nd June, 2004

Yes, there are infinite levels. Both the speed of the eskimo and the number of diamonds you need to collect will increase up to level 20. After level 20, they will stop increasing. I was planning on adding an online scoreboard, but I didn't know how, so I decided not to add one. Sorry...

By the way, Lazarus, thanks for the review! :D
