The Fall of the Klik Empire:

What has become of the Klik Community?
It seems that nearing the last third of the year 2001, the klik community has vanished almost completely. Why is this, you ask? Production teams and independent companies have become the focused groups into which klik newbies become inducted. Klikers don't work together like in the good ol' days. Just a few years ago, it was common practice for two or three klikers to get together and produce a game. No production team needed, or at least not in the essence of today's standards. Today, it seems the only klikers making games are those that are involved in companies or production teams who's members never vairy but simply grow to enhance every aspect of gaming. Companies, for the most part, don't get along. You can hear the ramblings everyday in IRC's #k&p channel on Dalnet. It's always "Lodestar sucks!" or "Beibersoft sucks!". It's this focus on companies and the tension between members that has driven the klik community apart.

The Good Ol' Days.
Upon comparing the status of the klik community today to the status of it 3 years ago, even a person with no experience of the time can denote the differences. People back then got along. I still remember frogman. He was a common visitor to the aforementioned #k&p channel. We used to have laugh riots just being in there crackin' on each other's jokes. Ahhhh... It's so sad that those times have degraded into people simply insulting each other to create conversation. Today's #k&p experience is childish, really. One wonders what the actual focus of the room is. Games seem to still be the underlying topic of the room, but many times the discussion is about the latest game from (place company name here) and the older (place other company name here) game and how much the first game sucked. Another common conversation seems to be "Who shall we team up against and insult today?". Back when I first joined #k&p, it was all about development. The topics were "Who could help who with what"... or "who laid who last night". Yes, a bit off topic at times, but a lot more constructive. You may be thinking 'why is he talking about ONE chat room, why not all the other aspects of the klik community?'. Honestly, it's because with sites like TFGF, Click Cafe and other major community sites down or in a state of disarray, it seems the only meeting place left for the kliker IS #k&p.

If I Could Change One Thing...
If I could change one thing about the klik community in general it would be the relations between the people who are a part of it. I would simply want people to look past the boundaries of their production teams and companies to take a lesson from people like me who aren't a part of a production team and realize that they aren't bound to a certain group of people when planning out a game. Whether it be two production teams working together on a game, or simply two people from different production teams working on one, the key here is breaking the ties that bind... and I'm out.
